Classification Summary:

 

Individuals in positions allocated to this class perform an engineering function which results in efficient and reliable engineering services. Primary responsibilities include handling electric service applications or inquiries, maintaining records, preparing minor staking sheets and processing permits/right-of-way easements.

 

Work is performed under the direct supervision of an Engineering Supervisor – District, Senior Engineer or assigned Division Manager who evaluates the work on a daily basis to ensure that the duties and responsibilities are being performed in a satisfactory manner.

 

Essential Job Functions

  1. Staking Sheets. Prepares staking sheets for minor overhead and underground projects. 
  2. Permits. Prepares and processes municipal, county, and FDOT permits/right-of-way easements.  Compiles and submits reports as required or directed. 
  3. Geographic Information System (GIS). Utilizes GIS, making sure projects are properly and timely entered into GIS. 
  4. Works with Members, Builders or Developers. Ensures that there is a good understanding between Clay Electric and members, builders or developers about the requirements for new services as stipulated in the Standards for Electric Service and the member, builder or developer’s needs. 
  5. Job Orders. Receives, stakes and processes job orders, ensuring required engineering and related data/records are kept up to date. 
  6. Cost Estimates. Prepares cost estimates as required. 
  7. Reports. Prepares and processes reports related to construction and maintenance activities. 
  8. Safety. Practices safe work habits in the performance of all job duties and is familiar with and follows those portions of the Cooperative Safety Manual that pertain to the position. 
  9. Other Essential Duties: Each employee is responsible to perform other duties as required to benefit the Cooperative and its members, includes responding to and/or assisting in emergency situations.

     

    Minimum Training and Experience:

     

    This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus two (2) years of experience as a Clay Electric Engineering Aide and completion of two out of the three phases in the Hi-Line Comprehensive Staking Technician training curriculum.

     

    Individuals in this position must maintain a valid State of Florida driver’s license.

     

    Substitution:

     

    Experience as a staking technician at an electric utility may substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.

     

    Experience as a journey level Lineworker, Serviceworker or Field Electrical Equipment Technician at an electric utility may substitute for the required experience on a two (2) years for one (1) year basis.

     

    A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology from an ETAC/ABET accredited program may substitute for the minimum training and experience requirement.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

     

    Ability to use a laptop computer and understand circuit diagrams, computer displayed mapping, the customer information system and other compute-based systems as required.

     

    Ability to comprehend and understand construction work plans.

     

    Ability to assist in the preparation of work studies and surveys.

     

    Ability to work with other divisions in order to render the most efficient service possible.

     

    Ability to comprehend and understand plans and specifications.

     

    Comprehensive knowledge of Clay Electric’s Construction Standards, National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code and Clay Electric’s Standards for Electric Service.

     

    Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other technology software/tools used in the department, including the use of iPads and other company issued electronic devices.
