Classification Summary:

 

Individuals in positions allocated to this class perform skilled, technical, trades work performing transformer meter installation and maintenance. Primary responsibilities include performing the required work in connection with maintenance, operation, and service of distribution lines, transmission lines, substations protective equipment, regulators, transformer rated meters, and other related equipment owned by the Cooperative.

 

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Meter Technician Supervisor who reviews the work on a periodic basis to ensure that the employee is performing the duties and responsibilities in a satisfactory manner and is providing adequate direction to lower-level meter technicians and adhering to safe work practices.

 

Essential Job Functions

  1. Transformer Rated Meters.  Installs, tests, repairs, calibrates and performs maintenance on transformer rated meters and other related equipment.
  2. Coordinate Outages.  Coordinates planned outages with members and district offices for metering equipment change-outs and maintenance projects. 
  3. Clearance Approval.  Receives clearance to energize or to temporarily de-energize power lines from the Operations Department and/or district. 
  4. Paperwork.  Is responsible for inspecting completed transformer rated meter installation within thirty (30) days following installation. 
  5. Metering SoftwareKnows and properly uses personal computers and laptops with metering software, specifically MV90 xi software. 
  6. Power Quality.  Performs power quality investigations of large power consumers and submits load data to engineering for evaluation. 
  7. Tools and Equipment.  Is responsible for test equipment on transformer rated meters and other test equipment, to include metering equipment at member level and in substations. 
  8. Safety.  Practices safe work habits in the performance of all job duties and is familiar with and follows those portions of the Cooperative Safety Manual that pertain to the position. 
  9. Other Essential DutiesEach employee is responsible to perform other duties as required to benefit the Cooperative and its members, includes responding to and/or assisting in emergency situations.

     

     

    Other Job Duties:

     

    1. Performs maintenance and repair work, when necessary, to MV90 metering equipment.
    2. Installs, tests and calibrates transducers, transponders and other related equipment as needed.
    3. Complies with all traffic laws and related safety rules and safe work practices in the Cooperative Safety Manual and is able to perform CPR and first aid.

     

     

    Minimum Training and Experience:

     

    This position requires an Associate of Science degree from a regionally accredited university or college with a major in electronics, plus four (4) years of experience in metering with an electric utility, preferably through Clay Electric's line of progression for Meter Technician. 

     

    Substitution:

     

    Additional related experience may be substituted for the Associate of Science degree on a year for year basis.

     

    Individuals in this position must maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.

     

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

     

    Ability to use electronic test equipment and the knowledge to interpret the results. 

     

    Broad knowledge of electrical theory and practical application of theoretical concepts.

     

    Working knowledge of AMI meter operation and testing procedures.

     

    Ability to read and comprehend meter diagrams.

     

    Ability to use personal computers in the scope of programming microprocessor-based meters and equipment and the ability to learn metering software.

     

    Ability to install power quality test equipment and interpret results to recommend solutions.

     

    Ability to recognize and correct areas in meter design, meter circuit assembly and application.

     

    Ability to diagnose meter malfunctions and restore meters to normal operation.

     

    Ability to understand the meaning and significance of manufacturers’ technical publications.

     

    This position requires the employee to be available to perform work after normal working hours when necessary.
