Classification Summary:

 

Individuals in positions allocated to this class perform the most advanced and skilled work required in connection with the construction, maintenance, operations and service of transmission, overhead and underground distribution lines, protective equipment, substations and related equipment owned and operated by the Cooperative.

 

Work is performed under the supervision of the Crew Chief or Crew Leader who reviews work periodically to ensure that the employee is meeting the performance level expected of a Lineworker and adhering to the Cooperative Safety Manual.

 

Essential Job Functions

  1. Constructs and Maintains Power Lines. Installs, removes, inspects and maintains both overhead and underground lines and equipment. 
  2. Switching Operations.  Performs switching operations on energized and de-energized lines and equipment, utilizing the Electric Systems Control Manual, UAI system and all safety precautions. 
  3. Troubleshooting and Outage Restoration.  Working independently or with others, systematically performs all duties associated with troubleshooting lines and equipment to restore electric service. 
  4. Operation of Equipment.  Operates construction equipment such as line truck, bucket truck, trenchers and other equipment as required.  Complies with all traffic laws and related safety rules and safe work practices. 
  5. Use and Care of Tools and Equipment.  Responsible for the use, care and security of tools, vehicles, equipment and materials utilized.  Keeps vehicle and equipment clean and orderly, noting repairs as needed. Uses accident and personal injury prevention methods, including proper lifting techniques and the use of personal protective equipment. 
  6. Supervision as Required.  Provides supervision for crew members as assigned in the absences of Crew Leader or other supervisor. 
  7. Safety.  Practices safe work habits in the performance of all job duties and is familiar with and follows those portions of the Cooperative Safety Manual that pertain to the position. 
  8. Other Essential Duties.  Each employee is responsible to perform other duties as required to benefit the Cooperative and its members, includes responding to and/or assisting in emergency situations.

     

     

    Other Job Duties:

     

    1. Completes paperwork associated with the job duties in a neat and timely manner. 
    2. Reports any hazards or damage to lines or equipment observed. 
    3. Assists in training Apprentice Lineworkers and other personnel in job-related operations.

       

       

       

      Minimum Training and Experience:

       

      This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus additional training consisting of the Clay Electric's Lineworker Development Training Program, or equivalent, and four (4) years of experience in an electric distribution utility preferably through the progression of apprentice line work.

       

      This position requires a valid Florida Class A commercial driver's license or a Florida Class A restricted commercial driver's license.

       

       

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

       

      Knowledge of overhead line construction, underground construction, maintenance and service practices for various electric plant facilities.

       

      Basic knowledge to understand and apply terms and conditions of service, applicable electric codes and Clay Electric drawings and specifications, safety rules, stringing charts and other related publications.

       

      Ability to read and understand Clay Electric’s mapping system through the use of a personal computer, iPad or other company-issued electronic device used in the field.

       

      Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other technology software/tools used in the field.

       

      This position requires after hours work due to work load and/or emergency situations.

       

      This position requires the ability to perform on-call and/or back-up duties. These assignments will be made at the discretion of the supervisor and considered a part of accepting this position.
