Position Overview
The Finance Manager, Asset-Based and Brokered Transportation performs a centralized financial role for our national asset-based transportation and brokerage business operated from Des Plaines, IL. The Finance Manager will report to the Director of Finance, Transportation.
Position Responsibilities
- Monthly oversight of business close: revenue and expense accruals, financial analysis and summaries for leaders, key takeaways for performance improvement, and overall ownership of the P&L for the business in total.
- Daily and weekly support of Operations: customer billings and accounts receivable, vendor payments and accounts payable, analysis of ongoing operations, process improvements, special projects.
- Supports the Operations team in analyzing trends and completing variance analysis. Develop analyses/reports and present them concisely and insightfully to management.
- Designs and implements financial controls to ensure achievement of profitability and other financial goals supports audit requests and compliance standards.
- Continually seeks to improve processes, drive change where needed, make recommendations to leadership, and follow through to completion. Leads the team through process change including automation of manual process flows. Oversees the implementation of new asset-based Transportation Operating systems from a Finance and Accounting perspective.
- Responsible for two direct reports and for overseeing the coding of asset-based invoices in LoadStop and SAP systems.
- Responsible for the accuracy of asset-based customer billing and for revenue postings in the general ledger.
- Oversees the brokerage carrier freight bill audit and customer invoice processing to ensure that carrier payment processing and customer invoicing are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Provides strategic and operational leadership for transportation brokerage finance including the management of freight bill payment and customer invoicing processes.
- Collaborates with brokerage operations, corporate accounting, IT, and accounts receivable teams.

Job Qualifications - Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience.
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented Finance professional with 2-3 years financial planning and analysis experience to provide analytical support for this growing business. Budgeting experience at a business unit level is a plus. Experience in a logistics, distribution, or manufacturing environment is a plus.
- Independent leader capable of making decisions where appropriate and seeking guidance where appropriate.
- Strong project leadership/ management skills. Comfortable in a changing environment and eager to embrace changes that support the business and improve efficiencies. Trusted business partner to Operations.
- Strong interpersonal skills required (written and verbal) for internal and external communications.
- Strong skillset in Microsoft Office is required. General ledger knowledge in SAP is beneficial.
