STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

JOB TITLE: Instructional Coach - Early Childhood
REPORTS TO: Director of Early Childhood
FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT


JOB SUMMARY: The Instructional Coach will work directly with teachers in a school providing classroom-based demonstrations, collaborative and one-on-one support, present reading and writing professional development and follow up with teacher implementation with related support. The Coach will focus on enhancing teachers’ ability to provide reading instruction that builds students’ sense of engagement in the ownership of learning. The Coach will also work with administrators and teachers to collect and analyze data, interpret it, and use it to guide instructional decisions.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Work closely with Instructional and Administrative Team to facilitate the fully implementation of a school-wide one-way dual language program.
Deliver professional development opportunities and professional research and reading for teachers whole-group, small-group and one-on-one.
Follow up with teachers to make sure they are fully implementing outcomes outlined at staff development trainings.
Model effective reading practices for teachers and provide needed support for teachers to successfully implement effective reading strategies for student success.
Guide teachers to collect and analyze data and develop action plans in response to determined student need.
Oversee the school’s assessment procedure, training, data collection and collaborate with the principal to complete reports due.
Train teachers on model on how to properly implement the DRA and Fountas and Pinnell reading assessment instruments.
Complete monthly status reports to track on or below grade-level, below grade level and more than one grade level student reading levels by class, grade level and school-wide.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; with a minimum five (5) years full-time teaching experience in the subject area (i.e., Math, Science, or Early Childhood)


PREFERRED:
Master's degree; Hold a valid professional teaching certificate; Accomplish “Proficient" rating in teacher evaluation system for two consecutive years (equivalent to 3.0 out of 4.0 in H- TESS); Minimum 2 years of combined experience in teacher leader roles (mentor, department head, PLC leader , etc.); Demonstrate student achievement/growth in STAAR and MAP that exceeds campus/district average, if applicable, Professional development in the areas of classroom management, student engagement, instructional planning, and instructional coaching; Hold a valid Reading Specialist certification (for early childhood only)


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
ESL certified, Bilingual preferred Valid Texas driver’s license


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of Cityscape Schools mission, philosophy, culture, protocol, and organizational structure;
Knowledge of effective and efficient methods for organizing and maintaining records and ability to perform the same;
Knowledge of local, state and federal laws governing education; Knowledge and competency in subject(s) taught;
Knowledge of elementary, secondary or special education principles, practices and procedures; Knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching;
Knowledge of No Child Left Behind, Texas Education Agency, and school rules, regulations and procedures;
Ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of people and remain sensitive to their concerns;
Ability to present a positive and professional image of Cityscape Schools; Ability to work independently and with limited supervision;
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with employees, parents, students, and the community;
Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints;
Ability to establish goals and objectives and monitor their effective implementation; Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment and exercise confidentiality; Ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior;
Ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports;

Ability to meet attendance requirements;
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively; Proven ability to teach struggling emergent readers
Intimate familiar with a variety of language and literacy assessments
