JOB TITLE:              Assistant Principal
 
REPORTS TO:         Principal
 
FLSA STATUS:        EXEMPT       
 
JOB SUMMARY: 
 
Responsible for assisting the principal in managing all hands-on operational aspects of Cityscape Schools.  Assists in the planning, programming, development, implementation, supervision, facility management and evaluation of educational and fiscal activities of the Cityscape Schools. Assists the principal in the selection, training, and supervision of all staff responsible for performing the daily operational duties of all departments; assists in developing policies and procedures for these operations and ensures compliance to the same which includes any legal requirements, standards, and regulations; assists in monitoring and maintaining compliance with established budgets; ensures income production and cost control measures are adequate to result in a balanced budget as presented by the Superintendent, CEO and approved by the Board of Directors.
 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assists in supervising the staff responsible for PEIMS reporting, financial transactions, record keeping, and report preparation/reconciliation for the school;
 
Assists the principal in developing and administering the school budget;
 
Assists in Monitoring and projecting income and expenditures, assists in analyzing and coordinating budget development set forth and according to guidelines established by the Board of Directors and Texas Education Agency policies;
 
Assists in monitoring school purchasing functions and accounts payable and receivables;
 
Assists in monitoring instructional and managerial processes to ensure program activities are related to program activities and related to program outcomes and assist in developing oversight processes to ensure corrective actions as necessary;
 
 
Assist in providing instruction resources and materials to encourage and support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional and school academic goals;
 
Assists in supervising academic, counseling, office and support staff of the school;
Assists in establishing and maintaining cooperative staff relations and effective parent-teacher relations;
 
Works in conjunction with the principal to maintain a strong relationship with Cityscape Schools Advisory Committee consisting of community members, parents and students to ensure that the school reflects the community’s needs;
 
Assist in developing learning opportunities for students between semesters and during summer break;
 
Assists in enforcing the Cityscape Schools Student Code of Conduct and implements disciplinary proceedings and activities as necessary to maintain an appropriate educational setting for all students;
 
Participates in continuing education opportunities, conferences and seminars to enhance professional growth and encourages and supports continuing education of staff;
 
Performs all duties with an understanding of the mission, philosophy, culture, and protocol of Cityscape Schools and conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Assists in supervising and evaluating all staff assigned to the school and assist in the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of all departments. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws set forth by the Board of Directors and Texas Education Agency. Responsibilities include assisting the principal in interviewing, hiring and training of all employees and assist in planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
 
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Assist the principal to develop relationships with the local and broader community to enhance programs and support of Cityscape Schools;
 
Travel, as needed, to represent Cityscape Schools Academy both locally and abroad to support and enhance all programs, projects, and special events;
 
Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: 
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
 
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field preferred,
 
and
 
Three years progressively responsible in educational management,
 
or
 
a bachelor’s degree and any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
 
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
 
Valid Texas Driver’s License
 
Valid Texas Principals Certification preferred
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 
Knowledge of Cityscape Schools mission, philosophy, culture, protocol, and organizational structure;
 
Knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel and business management and supervision;
 
Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations, marketing, and customer service;
 
Knowledge of effective and efficient methods for organizing and maintaining records and ability to perform the same;
Knowledge of the principles and practices of grant administration;
 
Knowledge of local, state and federal laws governing education;
 
Ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of people and remain sensitive to their concerns;
 
Ability to oversee and maintain the security and accountability of state, federal and donated funds and/or assets;
 
Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate successful programs, meetings, and special events related to public relations and staff development and morale;
 
Ability to supervise, lead, motivate, monitor, and evaluate employees;
 
Ability to present a positive and professional image of Cityscape Schools;
 
Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate, complete, and timely manner;
 
Ability to work independently and with limited supervision;
 
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with employees, members of Board of Directors, parents, students, and the community;
 
Ability to prepare effective printed materials for educational and promotional purposes;
 
Ability to read and interpret policies/procedures, legal documents and requirements to ensure compliance;
 
Ability to assist in the administration of budgets and assist in monitoring expenditures for compliance with the same;

WORKING CONDITIONS:
 
Work may be performed in an office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like but not limited to the office environment. 
 
  • Requires work involving standing or walking frequently at times, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and manipulate objects.
  • Prolonged sitting working at a computer using repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse
  • Occasional light lifting and carrying of up to 30lbs, and moderate dexterity in utilizing office equipment.
  • The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
  • The position may be exposed to bright/dim lights, dust or pollen, traffic, construction hazards at times.
  • May work prolonged or irregular hours, frequent districtwide travel.
  • Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; maintain confidentiality 
  • Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position
