Position Overview:

The City of Kitchener is hiring summer students to be part of the Downtown Team performing duties related to the downtown core.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides attendant supervision of wading pool at Carl Zehr Square.
  • Assists in the maintenance of Carl Zehr Square and the downtown core.
  • Removes litter, sharps and graffiti.
  • Operates gas-powered leaf blower, hedge trimmer and line trimmer.
  • Provides evening and weekend support.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

NOTE:

Initial selection for available positions will be for applications received prior to February 18, 2024. Applications received after this date will be kept in an application pool in case of future opportunities.    

 

Requirements:

  • Valid MTO G2” class driver's license in good standing and must be able to provide Drivers Abstract at your own expense as a condition of employment.
  • Preference will be given to candidates holding a valid MTO “G class license.
  • Minimum educational equivalent to partial secondary school education. 
  • Up to 1 month of related experience. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment and have a willingness to accept directions. 
  • Ability to perform physical labour. 
  • Strong customer service skills. 
  • Must have a Standard First Aid Certificate in good standing or willing to obtain upon hire.
  • Preference will be given to candidates holding a valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C and Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion or Lifesaving Society Wading pool Attendant certificate.
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
