Position Overview:

Assists in coordinating the daily operation of aquatic facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Works in cooperation with Aquatic Coordinator and supervisor to assist with the training, coaching and evaluation of Instructor Guards.
  • Assists with seasonal review and evaluation of aquatic programs.
  • Acts on-site as a resource to aquatic staff regarding program planning, conflict resolution and behaviour management.
  • Adjusts staff shift lengths when appropriate such as reducing or cancelling shifts due to low attendance or inclement weather.
  • Ensures instructors conduct swimming lessons according to established procedures and program content.
  • Changes program maximum (when applicable) to ensure appropriate bather ratios.
  • Leads actions of pool staff in the event of a medical emergency, including immediate response and completion of accident reports.
  • Prepares facility for the summer operating season including, but not limited to arranging facility cleaning, and taking inventory of current supplies and equipment.
  • Prepares facility for winter closure after Labour Day including, but not limited to leading facility cleaning, and taking inventory of current supplies and equipment.
  • Opens and closes facility. Completes safety check record. Determines if equipment and facility/pool is safe to use.
  • Performs Lifesaving Society Bronze examinations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Highschool Diploma.
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience including as a previous Head Guard, overseeing swim lessons and single-visit programming, working at outdoor pools, etc.
  • Completion of all courses below:
    • Aquafit trained.
    • Aquatic Supervisor Training course.
    • Current Bronze Examiner.
    • Current Lifesaving Society - Swim Instructor.
    • Current Lifesaving Society - Lifesaving Instructor.
    • Current National Lifeguard.
    • Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification.
    • Valid CPR Level “C” and Standard First Aid Certificate.
    • Current Standard First Aid Instructor.
    • Lifesaving Society Pool Operator Level 1, or equivalent certification.
  • Access to reliable transportation and be able to travel to various work locations across the City. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and de-escalation skills to address concerns or complaints.
  • Exemplary customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively.
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
