Position Overview:

Provides sports programs and instruction to participants.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and conducts appropriate sports programs for participants following required standards.
  • Demonstrates and instructs assigned activities and techniques using established teaching methodology and procedures; provides feedback to participants. Modifies programs as needed to ensure inclusion of all participants.
  • Explains and ensures safety rules and regulations governing sports, recreational activities, and the use of equipment are followed.
  • Assembles supplies, sports and/or game equipment.
  • Completes room set ups as required including lifting and moving nets, mats, chairs, and any other program equipment.
  • Integrates inclusion staff, private support workers, and volunteers into programs.
  • Completes records and reports including class attendance and accident/incident reports.
  • Ensures safe use, condition, and storage of equipment.
  • Distributes applicable forms and program information (e.g., course evaluation forms, general information, brochures).
  • Adheres to policies and procedures established for City of Kitchener facilities.
  • Reviews emergency procedures with participants; follows established procedures during emergencies.
  • Responds to participants immediate concerns and/or needs and provides customer service.
  • Acts as a liaison between the community centre and participants.
  • Provides first aid as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • Equivalent to partial secondary school education.
  • Current technical and practical training in one or more sport disciplines.
  • 3 months of related experience.
  • Provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check at your own expense as a condition of employment (applicable to instructors of children and youth programs).
  • Valid CPR Level “C” and Emergency First Aid Certificate.
  • Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
