Pay & Grade: $30.10 to $31.75 Hourly Grade/Band: 5 (Under Review)

Hours of Work:40 Hours per week

Initial location: Kitchener Operations Facility

Overview

The City of Kitchener is looking for a dedicated individual to fill a permanent, full-time position as a Parks Maintainer - Turf. In this role, you’ll help manage and maintain the turf and natural landscapes in our parks and recreational areas, ensuring they are safe, beautiful, and enjoyable for everyone in the community. Your key responsibilities will include regular turf maintenance, implementing naturalization projects, and performing general grounds maintenance and repairs. Additionally, during the winter, you’ll assist with snow plowing, salting, shoveling, and maintaining ice rinks and toboggan hills. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and abilities. Responsibilities

  • Turf Care: Maintain, repair, and renovate turf in parks, trails, greenways, hydro corridors, city facilities/arenas, boulevards/cul-de-sacs, roadsides, and medians.
  • Daily Planning: Work individually or as part of a team to plan and organize daily tasks, tools, supplies, and equipment.
  • Recommendations: Identify and suggest additional work needed to maintain park areas and turf.
  • Landscaping Assessment: Monitor and assess landscaping conditions, identifying maintenance needs based on service levels, plant health, and seasonal practices.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate various vehicles and equipment, such as tractors, loaders, and small power tools.
  • Customer Service: Provide front-line customer service to the public and stakeholders.
  • Ice Rink Maintenance: Participate in the installation, removal, and upkeep of Neighbourhood Rink Program ice pads.
  • Winter Duties: Engage in winter job duties like snow plowing and hand shoveling as part of the winter job pool process.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent. 
  • Valid MTO “DZ” driver's license in good standing. 
  • Familiarity with turf maintenance equipment. 
  • Demonstrated communication skills with a customer service focus and the ability to keep accurate written records. 
  • Ability to participate as an effective team member. 
  • Must be available to work varying shifts, & rotational duties, weekends and overtime as required. 
  • Must be available for winter call out as required.
  • Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
