Position Overview:

As a Crossing Guard you will assist in the safe movement of school children in crossing roadways at designated points by observing gaps in traffic, assuming right-of-way and indicating when it is safe to cross.


  • Assists children on their way to and from school in safely crossing roadways and intersections by stopping vehicular traffic on roadways at designated points.
  • Watches for gaps in traffic and walks children across the roadway or intersection while holding a "stop" sign in such a manner as to be visible to approaching vehicles.
  • Advises children of unsafe behavior.
  • Reports suspicious persons loitering near crossings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.



  • Must have some secondary school education.
  • Must have up to 1 month related experience.
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions in all seasons.
  • Must be able to work with youth.
  • Must provide a satisfactory police reference check (vulnerable sector) at their own expense as a condition of employment.
  • Must be willing to undergo a Medical check to ensure that the potential candidate is fit for duty as a condition of employment.
