Position Overview:

Provides database services to IT staff and other departments, ensuring the effective management of the City’s data and information resources. Establishes, implements, and oversees policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and related applications.

Responsibilities:

  •  Ensures the effective management of the City’s data and information resources.
  • Establishes, implements, and oversees policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and related applications.
  • Designs, develops, and implements database operational standards, and procedures to ensure optimal database performance and integrity.
  • Implements and maintains virtual hardware, software, operating systems, and application software for the Corporation’s database management systems.
  • Monitors and allocates resources to optimize the database performance.
  • Implements database security and access policies; ensures the integrity and security of databases and database servers.
  • Coordinates and performs data migrations, conversions and application integrations.
  • Ensures policies and procedures are in place for disaster recovery to ensure effective protection and integrity of all data assets.
  • Responsible for data archiving as required in accordance with policy, storage limitations and performance considerations.
  • Supports enterprise applications, including implementation, integrations and upgrades.
  • Provides user support for data collection, reporting and analysis.
  • Monitors and ensures license agreement compliance.
  • Provides database services to other TIS staff and other departments across the City.
  • Keeps up-to-date of new or converging technologies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 3 year college diploma or university degree.
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience in database administration.
  • Thorough understanding of database administration methodologies.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in database monitoring and analyzing performance usage and re-allocating resources to optimize database performance.
  • Demonstrate experience in implementing and maintaining operating system and application software for a database management system.
  • Proven ability to design and implement system integrations.
  • Extensive experience working with Oracle RDBMS, SQL, additionally knowledge of Python would be preferred.
  • Experience working with VMware.
  • Ability to implement and maintain OS and application security.
  • Comfortable working in a Linux environment.
  • SAP basis experience would be considered an asset, including performing SAP upgrades, knowledge of PI/PO, Solution Manager, Hana, BOBJ, understanding SAP security principles, proficient in system monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with user groups and technical staff.
  • Strong ability to organize, prioritize and work effectively to deadlines
  • Must be reliable with good attitude and employment record.
  • Must have the ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.

  • 2-Year Diploma (or 2-Year Specialized Post-Secondary Program) with minimum 7 years related and relevant experience or 4-Year Honours Degree with minimum 2 years related and relevant experience
