Description

CICONIX is looking for a Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) responsible for providing decontamination, preparation, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of reusable medical and surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment in accordance with established protocols. These services support various clinical areas, including Surgical Specialty (OR), Clinics (Specialty, Podiatry, Ophthalmology, Dental, ENT), and other departments requiring Sterile Processing services.
Location: Cheyenne VA Medical Center, Cheyenne, WY & Northern Colorado VA Outpatient Clinic, Loveland, CO
Positions: 4 Technicians (Cheyenne, WY); 2 Technicians (Loveland, CO)
General Responsibilities:
The Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) is responsible for providing decontamination, preparation, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of reusable medical and surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment in accordance with established protocols. These services support various clinical areas, including Surgical Specialty (OR), Clinics (Specialty, Podiatry, Ophthalmology, Dental, ENT), and other departments requiring Sterile Processing services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Decontamination: Receives, disassembles, and inspects medical instruments for damage, ensuring they are in good working condition. Performs cleaning by scrubbing, brushing, rinsing, and using ultrasonic equipment and automated washers.
  • Assembly and Packaging: Assembles and packages instruments and surgical sets, ensuring proper arrangement and functionality. Identifies missing or damaged items and makes necessary adjustments.
  • Sterilization: Operates sterilization equipment, including steam, hydrogen peroxide gas plasma (V-Pro), and high-level disinfection units (Medivators, Trophon). Monitors sterilization indicators for proper sterilization of instruments.
  • Quality Control: Conducts quality checks on sterilized instruments and equipment, ensuring adherence to proper sterilization methods. Labels and dates sterilized items for storage and use.
  • Distribution: Stocks, organizes, and distributes sterilized instruments and supplies based on hospital needs and surgical schedules. Rotates stock to ensure first-in, first-out usage.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Troubleshoots and performs minor maintenance on sterilization equipment. Reports equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
  • Compliance and Safety: Adheres to all VA, OSHA, and Joint Commission guidelines for infection control, sterile processing, and patient safety. Maintains compliance with HIPAA regulations when handling patient-related materials.
  • Training and Education: Participates in mandatory VA training sessions, including infection control, sterile processing standards, and new sterilization technology updates.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a sterile processing technician program preferred.
  • Certification: 
    • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) preferred.
    • Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in a sterile processing department, healthcare facility, or similar setting preferred.
  • Skills: 
    • Knowledge of surgical instruments, medical terminology, and sterilization techniques.
    • Ability to follow detailed protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Work Schedule & Conditions:
  • Work Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with no on-call requirement.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift/move heavy trays and equipment, and perform repetitive tasks in a controlled environment.
  • Work Environment: Work is performed in a sterile processing department with exposure to cleaning/disinfecting chemicals, bloodborne pathogens, and biohazard materials. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.

  • Travel: Travel for training or special assignments may be required and will be reimbursed per Federal Travel Regulations.
