Chief Industries’ Corporate Office is seeking a Corporate Tax Manager to join the Chief team. This position will minimize tax expenses, maximize tax benefits and incentives, and ensure compliance with applicable laws. The Corporate Tax Manager will oversee preparation of all necessary work papers and returns for state and federal income tax returns. Manager will work with outside accounting firms to make sure the returns are complete and accurate, and filed in a timely manager. This position is also responsible for property and sales tax functions, including sales tax research decisions, real estate taxes, and for Tax and GAAP fixed assets and lease accounting.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the CFO on strategic tax planning. Monitor tax law changes and assess impact to Chief. Work with divisions to implement incentive programs and maximize tax benefits to Chief.
  • Research and determine the most effective tax treatment for foreign activity and tax implications of international activity. Manage budget of external tax advisors related to foreign support.             
  • Prepare Chief Industries federal income tax return and related forms and work papers. Coordinate review by outside accounting firm and finalize return for filing.              
  • Responsible for monthly and annual tax provision work papers.
  • Ensure quarterly estimated tax payments are calculated and paid when due.
  • Responsible for state income tax returns for all states and entities with nexus. Determine issues particular to each state and differences between federal and state taxation of specific items. Continually train and learn more about federal and state income taxation. Calculate apportionment factors applicable to the states.             
  • Responsible for fixed assets. This includes tax reporting, GAAP entries to the GL, and all supporting schedules.
  • Responsible for lease accounting. This includes tax reporting, GAAP entries to the GL, and all supporting schedules.
  • Responsible for personal property taxes. See that forms are prepared properly and work with revaluations and protests. Make sure that the proper accrual is being entered into the G/L.              
  • Responsible for sales tax compliance, including research and determining proper treatment. Responsible for the sales tax software proper function. Ensure sales tax returns are filed in a timely and accurate manner. Facilitate sales tax audits.
  • Responsible for tax returns and audits for the Thrift Plan and small partnership entities. Tax reporting for Chief Foundation, VTL, BTA, AD&D, and LTD.              
  • Facilitate state tax incentive program enrollment and ongoing participation and compliance.              
  • Ensure that all applicable Form 720’s (excise tax reports) are prepared and filed.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

  • 7 years experience, tax return preparation experience required
  • CPA
  • Supervising experience preferred
