We’re looking for candidates who have:

  1. A master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or Counseling strongly preferred; or two or more years of experience in Residence Life or related field with the intent/desire to pursue graduate education. Bachelor's degree required.
  2. The ability to understand, envision, lead, and direct educationally-focused communities of believer-learners in both freshmen and upperclassmen environments.
  3. Knowledge of Residence Hall style living and front desk operations.
  4. An understanding of the socio-emotional and spiritual needs of college students – from freshmen to seniors – and act upon such knowledge to create educational communities for students.
  5. An understanding of general judicial policies and procedures and the university structure so as to work through the proper channels and complete tasks with accuracy and excellence.
  6. Self-motivation and are able to solve complex problems with little or no supervision.
  7. Demonstrated poise, assess needs, utilize judgment, and develop positive and wise solutions according to University protocol in a variety of crisis situations.
  8. The ability to communicate effectively to students, staff and faculty, and parents, by phone, e-mail, memorandum, and in person.
  9. A servant’s heart and a teachable spirit.
  10. Utilized student database systems and Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Access, Word, and Publisher.
  11. A teachable posture, can follow instructions, and work cooperatively with all Residence Life and Student Development staff.

Key Job Duties:

  1. Contribute to CCU’s mission: CCU provides Christ-centered higher education to transform students to impact the world with grace and truth. The Resident Director contributes to this mission by developing a community based on biblical principles, common educational goals, and mutual respect.
  2. Select, lead, direct, and supervise a staff of eight to twelve Resident Assistants (RAs) and one to two Assistant Resident Directors (ARDs, undergraduate students) to provide a positive and educational living environment for residential students; share in the development of the overall Residence Life team.
  3. Assist in front desk staff selection and operations as needed.
  4. Be aware of student issues and build relationships with all students in the living area by maintaining a visible presence in each living area through regular visitation and participation in residence functions. Assist residents in learning to respect other students and their living areas.
  5. Possess and utilize a working knowledge of campus polices/resources to intervene in and properly handle crisis situations and emotional or health issues that arise in the campus community.
  6. Assist students in mediating conflict; manage difficult psychological and health cases; advise, train, and support student staff in identifying and assisting troubled residents.
  7. Personally assist troubled students and disciple and mentor students; follow through on these issues in the living area.
  8. Direct facilities and operational activities in a designated living area, including check-in/check-out procedures, room changes, and appropriate paperwork.
  9. Uphold the CCU Code of Conduct/ Direct and implement the judicial process for the designated living area(s), including investigating disciplinary allegations, conducting preliminary disciplinary meetings, determining and assigning disciplinary sanctions, completing the necessary documentation, and training, advising, and supervising student staff in the area of conduct and discipline.
  10. Attend meetings, apprise departmental leadership on important issues in the community, share input, produce regular reports, participate in campus on-call rotations, assist with Residence Life training, and support other departmental, divisional, and campus-wide efforts.
  11. Administer a specific role that accomplishes departmental objectives and competencies. Examples may include overseeing student staff training, professional staff training, programming model and philosophy, academic initiatives, etc.
  12. Demonstrate a genuine interest in campus life by actively participating in campus functions such as varsity and intramural sports, homecoming events, awards ceremonies, and University-sponsored events. Be available to students during some evening hours and serve on the on-call rotation for emergency response.
  13. Act as a Title IX investigator when requested.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, you may be required to walk, stand, sit, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, speak with clarity, and have appropriate vision and hearing capabilities. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Colorado Christian University expects all faculty and staff to become a part of the University community by participating in activities and events that occur on the campus throughout the year, which may occur during evenings and weekends.

Pay and benefits will be discussed in more detail as candidates progress through the interview process. The pay range for this job is: $29,000-$33,000. Pay is assigned by reviewing a combination of job-related factors that may include: internal/external pay equity, the salary structure/pay grade, or a candidate’s qualifications/experience for the job. A wage range posted is not a guarantee of a specific wage and CCU reserves the right to make pay decisions based on economic and equity considerations. CCU does not determine pay based on sex or any other protected status.

Spiritual Requirements

  1. Committed follower of Jesus Christ, who believes there is no salvation apart from faith in his atonement on the cross, by grace alone becoming "born again" thus beginning a personal relationship with Christ, the Son of God.
  2. Able to effectively communicate personal faith and apply biblical principles and convictions in the workplace. Must have a strong sense of calling to the ministry of Colorado Christian University.
  3. Regularly attend and be engaged in meaningful involvement in a Bible-believing evangelical local church. Knowledgeable about the Word of God and passionate about Christian education.
  4. Must be a traditional evangelical Christian whose lifestyle is in consonance with sound Christian principles, is compatible with CCU’s Statement of Faith, and is in agreement with the Strategic Priorities promulgated by the University.
