Role Summary: The Senior Accountant will serve as a key member of the finance team, responsible for maintaining the financial integrity of the organization's development portfolio and corporate entities. This role balances project-based accounting with corporate financial stewardship (audit preparation, internal controls, and GL maintenance). You will partner directly with the Senior Director of Finance to strengthen internal controls and ensure that all financial reporting complies with GAAP and regulatory standards.
 
Key Responsibilities
Audit, Compliance & General Ledger
  • Serve as the main point of contact for annual financial audits, preparing detailed schedules, trial balances, and supporting documents for external auditors.
  • Oversee General Ledger operations across multiple entities, including processing month-end entries such as accruals, prepaid expenses, and depreciation.
  • Conduct monthly balance sheet reconciliations for cash, intercompany accounts, and capital asset ledgers to maintain data accuracy.
  • Guarantee prompt and precise financial reporting to government agencies and lenders according to partnership and loan agreements.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
  • Support the Senior Director of Finance in documenting, evaluating, and testing internal controls to help reduce risk.
  • Propose and implement enhancements to accounting policies like capitalization guidelines and expense approval workflows for improved efficiency and compliance.
  • Ensure procurement and payment procedures are followed, monitoring segregation of duties and authorization thresholds.
Job Costing & Budget Management
  • Keep the job cost ledger updated for all current development projects.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to review monthly 'Budget vs. Actual' reports and address variances.
  • Manage and record Change Orders, making sure they receive proper approval and are accurately reflected in project budgets.
  • Assist with the 'Cost Certification' process upon project completion, especially mortgage cut-downs.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • 4–6 years of core accounting experience, ideally within Corporate or Public Accounting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP, accrual accounting, and financial statement preparation.
  • Proven involvement in audit processes, either as a participant or manager.
  • Advanced skills in Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, handling large datasets) and accounting ERP systems.
Preferred (Not Required):
  • Background in Real Estate, Construction, or Property Management accounting.
  • Experience with job costing platforms such as Yardi or Sage/Timberline.
  • CPA license or pursuing CPA certification.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $90,000 to $110,000
