Summary:
The Group Leader responsible for leading and facilitating a group in the after school
program and leading and managing  a group create and safe and educational
environment for the participants creation of lesson plans, facilitating enrichment activities
 and daily briefings with supervisors.
 
Location: 515 W. 182nd Street New York, NY 10033
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 
  • Group Leaders be assigned groups ranging in grades K-8th.
  • Lead and facilitate the activities .
  • Provide academic support and guidance.
  • Submit weekly reports and monthly group progress reports to the Program Director/After school Supervisor on a timely basis.
  • Track daily attendance.
  • Assist in program and agency division and agency events as needed.
  • Attend program Meetings.
  • Take DOHMH relevant to School Aged Child Care minimal of 15 hours yearly.
  • Attend workshops on the following:  classroom management, lesson plans, managing difficult behaviors and other related topics in a afterschool program setting.
  • Collect report cards and how to  monitor educational progress and keep track of academic progress.
  • Work as part of a team that organizes the agency’s annual youth conference and soup kitchen.
  • Help organize and implement all activities that relate to youth.
  • Inform the Program Director of any changes and abnormalities that may occur.
  • Attend all program staff meetings, community and agency events.
  • Daily journal entries
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: 
This is a part time, non-exempt position. Days and hours are generally Monday to Friday 3pm-6pm and occasional Saturdays.  Additional evening and weekend hours may be required to attend special events or meet program deadlines.
 Hourly Range:  $17.00

The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings.
  • Remain in a stationary position working at a computer at least 30% of the time or monitoring activities.
  • Move for long periods, providing instruction or facilitating workshops.
  • Travel when taking field trips, using public transportation, traverse city streets, ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions, while escorting youth.
 
Qualifications 
Education and/or experience required:
  • Associate Degree; working toward Bachelor Degree a plus.
  • Two years’ experience working with youth performing youth worker duties.
  • Experience facilitating workshops.
  • Experience providing one-on-one peer mediation.
Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required:
  • Bilingual, English/Spanish.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with families who face exceptional challenges.
  • Excellent social skills demonstrative of empathy and support.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
