Description

Merged forces, Castle Metals and Banner Industries, a global leader in the metals distribution space, is seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to join the corporate team. 
PURPOSE:
The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for providing advanced cost accounting support and analysis while playing a key role in developing, maintaining and analyzing material standard cost, purchase price variances and material usage variances. Ensures the integrity and availability of standard cost for materials and goods both produced and purchased.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (performs other duties as assigned):
  • Develops and maintains the cost accounting system, documentation, and records; Coordinates cost accounting procedures and activity across the Company to ensure standardization and consistency.
  • Determines the costs and efficiency of company purchasing activities.
  • Reviews costs for all external inventory, labor, and material purchases.
  • Gathers and analyzes cost data to identify discrepancies in inventory.
  • Generates reports relating to inventory, material costs, and labor and overhead rates.
  • Analyzes variances in monthly gross margin to identify and resolve costing issues.
  • Performs General Ledger account analysis /reconciliation related to inventory and cost accounts.
  • Manages month-end close duties, as it relates to inventory and Cost of Goods Sold.
  • Supports process improvement and automation by identifying/developing, recommending, and implementing changes.
  • Assists with calculating obsolete/excess inventory reserves.
  • Coordinates and assists with plant cycle counts.
  • Manages ambiguity by sharing anomalies and inconsistencies with leadership and assisting with resolution.
  • Adheres to finance and accounting control policies and procedures in compliance with the Company’s policies, US GAAP and internal controls.
  • Handles other accounting analysis or special projects as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related
  • Five years of experience as a cost accountant or analyst
  • Strong understanding of absorption costing and variable vs fixed expense analysis
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles
  • Strong financial acumen and the ability to create and analyze financial reports
  • Demonstrated ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Excellent analytical and math skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including advanced Excel skills and thorough knowledge of accounting software
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
