TerraTherm is a worldwide leader in development and implementation of thermal remediation, providing a range of technologies to cleanup and restore highly contaminated soil and groundwater. This position reports to the Technology Team Manager and is responsible for engineering and data management related activities associated with TerraTherm’s In Situ Thermal Remediation (ISTR) projects. Duties include data management and reporting, system design support, work plan preparation, and engineering field support during construction, commissioning, operations, and sampling work phases. The data manager’s responsibilities are flexible and will be tailored to the data manager’s individual skillset, interests, and educational background (i.e., Engineering disciplines, Geology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Technology). Responsibilities:
Data Management
  • Set up and manage data collection processes for individual projects.
  • Set up and manage websites for individual projects.
  • Maintain TerraTherm’s operational data sheets to help project teams smoothly operate the sites. This includes but is not limited to field data, analytical data, and temperature data, and comprises trend analysis and communication with the project technical director and field teams.
  • Create and update project reports.
 
Design Work
  • Prepare or assist with preparation of various design work plans from conceptual design through detailed design packages. 
  • Develop material takeoffs, assist with procurement activities and coordinate with material vendors and service subcontractors. Compare bids and recommend the selection of subcontractors and material vendors.  Prepare or assist with preparation of construction and equipment specifications.
  • Assist with preparation of cost estimates.
  • Assist with material and equipment assembly, packaging, crating and general preparation for deployment of equipment and materials to project sites.
  • Assemble and analyze historical site data, as well as operational data for proposals, reports, and presentations.
Field Work
  • Perform the function of field work as needed (typically less than a week at a time). This may include the following:
  • Assist with site operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities as needed,
  • Communicate issues with Project Manager or Construction Manager and client as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Perform field QA/QC to ensure construction work is performed in accordance with design specification.
  • Prepare detail drawings and perform fabrication supervision.
  • Keep Project Manager informed on design and performance issues.
  • Document field implementation tasks.
  • Drilling oversight. Assist or lead drilling oversight for system installations or soil sampling.
  • Communicate and coordinate work quality or safety concerns to the TerraTherm Project Manager, General Manager, and Technology Team Manager as necessary to ensure proper and safe completion of the project.
 
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Develop hands-on experience with electro-mechanical and process equipment selection, integration, fabrication, operation, and trouble shooting.
  • Develop a strong understanding of health and safety requirements related to ISTR projects.  Develop a safety-first mentality and demonstrate compliance with site specific health and safety plans.
  • Evaluate new and better ways to streamline the cost and performance of ISTR, capture information, and make overall improvements as learning takes place.
  • As directed, develop new methods/equipment in accordance with approved budget and scope. 
  • Continue to gain knowledge on the remediation of hazardous materials by reading relevant journals and related information.
  • Travel as necessary to perform position description duties. Emphasis during the first year or so of training will be on data collection and management activities, system design, fabrication, and construction support. Expect up to 20% travel for periods of up to 1 to 2 weeks at one time, dependent on project workload.
 
Qualifications:
Experience Required:
  • Zero to 3 years of experience with minimum BS in Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, or Environmental Science in a discipline suitable for the environmental remediation business.   
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables), Access database, MySQL, PowerPoint, and Word. Programming experience a plus (visual basic, etc.).
Certifications/Licensing:
  • EIT (Engineering Disciplines only) and 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training preferred.
Skills/Aptitudes:
  • Self-starter, team-oriented, and interest in life-long learning.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Ability to take direction and act independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.  Strong analytical skills preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stay organized while doing so.
 
Level of Supervision:
  • Complete assigned tasks based on instructions, directions, or objectives received with varying degrees of supervision from Project Manager or Supervisor.
