About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with deep expertise in FreeBSD and low-level systems programming. The ideal candidate will have significant experience integrating hardware with the FreeBSD operating system, particularly in the areas of driver development, networking, and storage systems. This role is critical to advancing our platform’s reliability, performance, and hardware compatibility.
 
 
Key Responsibilities: 
  • Design, implement, and maintain device drivers and low-level system software for FreeBSD. 
  • Integrate new hardware platforms and devices into FreeBSD-based environments. 
  • Enhance and troubleshoot the FreeBSD networking stack for high-performance and high-reliability use cases. 
  • Collaborate with hardware engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of systems. 
  • Contribute to the design and optimization of storage systems, with a strong emphasis on tape storage solutions. 
  • Diagnose and resolve kernel-level issues, ensuring system stability and efficiency. 
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and provide mentorship to junior developers. 
  • Stay current with FreeBSD development, industry best practices, and emerging hardware technologies. 
Required Qualifications: 
  • 10+ years of professional experience in systems-level software development. 
  • Strong expertise in FreeBSD internals, especially kernel and driver development. 
  • Proven experience with hardware/software integration at the OS level. 
  • Hands-on knowledge of the FreeBSD networking stack. 
  • Proficiency in C programming and low-level debugging tools. 
  • Solid understanding of storage architectures, with direct experience in tape storage systems highly valued. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to tackle complex systems issues. 
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Contributions to the FreeBSD open-source community or similar OS projects. 
  • Experience with performance tuning and scalability improvements in FreeBSD. 
  • Familiarity with hardware design concepts or firmware development. 
  • Knowledge of Go and Java frameworks is valued

Compensation: $140,000-170,000 annually, plus bonus
