Cloud Solutions Engineer - AIX
Description
Skytap is a Cloud Service for traditional applications that are based on IBM Power operating systems such as IBM i, AIX, and Linux and their dependent x86 workloads. Often these are the applications that are “stuck” in the datacenter and need to be either exited as part of an organization’s overall Cloud strategy, or the customer wishes to look for an alternative to an on-premises solution. We provide a Cloud Service built on Microsoft Azure that supports these workloads. Skytap is the only Cloud that provides ISVs with a self-service on-demand Cloud-based solution for ISVs that span both Power and x86 workloads.
We are looking for a Cloud Solutions Engineer, with AIX experience, to support our Service Delivery team that focuses on customer solutions moving to Skytap on Azure. This role will also include some Technical Account Management responsibilities on strategic engagements.
Your Responsibilities:
Cloud Solutions Engineer:
- Perform and support migration of customer Power systems to Microsoft Azure or IBM Cloud.
- Implement / perform AIX data restoration and / or replication strategies via PowerHA, MIMIX for AIX, GoldenGate, RMAN, Commvault, mksysb and savevg, NIM.
- Work closely with Skytap’s field teams, Product Management, and Architect teams to grow the Skytap solution.
- Write technical documentation.
- Drive the technical enablement of your team members, other Skytap teams, and our partners.
Technical Account Manager:
- Work with the broader Customer Success team to maintain customer health as measured by the Skytap customer scorecard
- Interact with our customers to understand their technical business needs, drive increased usage and remove technical barriers for adoption
- Develop a technical roadmap for the customer that delivers on the business value expectations of the customer based on their investment in Skytap
- Work hands on with their Engineering and Service Delivery teams to identify and debug application issues
- Create and deliver periodic reviews of operational performance to customer and internal leadership
- Make recommendations on how best to operate and take advantage of the Skytap Cloud offering
- Make our customers successful!
Your Skills:
- Extensive experience with the AIX Operating System
- Deep understanding of IBM Power Systems architecture including:
- IBM Power Servers such as S and E-Class systems
- IBM Storage Systems and Architecture
- Deep understanding of AIX HA and backup technologies such as
- PowerHA
- MIMIX for AIX
- Application level based replication technologies such as GoldenGate and RMAN
- AIX disaster recovery solutions such as Commvault
- Native backup and recovery such as mksysb and savevg
- NIM
- Core understanding of networking including TCP/IP, VPN, advanced local routing, BGP
- Understanding of Windows and Linux Operating Systems
- Ability to automate common tasks in Windows and Linux with an understanding of REST based APIs. Experience with Ansible, Terraform, and other common automation frameworks is highly recommended.
- Experience with Cloud networking technologies such as ExpressRoute is recommended
- Knowledge of Cloud-based solutions that are architected to the provider’s Cloud adoption framework with an appropriate landing zone is recommended
- Experience in envisioning new solutions and defending complex architectures
- Ability to write technical documentation.
- Ability to multitask.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong executive presence and proven experience presenting to executives at all levels.
Other Requirements:
- Must be passionate about customer success.
- Deep understanding of SAP ECC on AIX.
Good understanding of Oracle Databases and corresponding applications and high availability and migration architectures for Oracle on AIX or Power Linux. - Ability to work across different time zones including EMEA, APAC, and US depending on Skytap demand for the service.
- Limited international travel may be required.
