ILM opened its London studio in 2014 with Creative Director, Ben Morris, and Executive, Sue Lyster, at the helm.

The London studio leverages the expertise and technological knowhow developed over 40 years at Industrial Light & Magic combined with the top artists and technicians in the region. Knowledge and culture flow freely between the company’s four studios and the global team shares tools and workflow allowing for seamless collaboration on all shared projects.

Founded in 1975 by George Lucas, ILM San Francisco was the first of our global studios and continues to thrive as a leading effects facility in the world, serving the motion picture, commercial production, and attraction industries.

Led by Executive, Jessica Teach and Chief Creative Officer, John Knoll, ILM continues to set the standard for visual effects.

In 2006 ILM expanded its operations beyond its San Francisco headquarters, opening its first international studio in Singapore.

Under the leadership of Executive, Luke Hetherington and Creative Director, Nigel Sumner The Singapore studio is a full-service effects and animation studio responsible for delivering complete shots and sequences on top-tier Hollywood films as well as regional projects.

In 2013, ILM planted roots in Vancouver and just a year later, the company expanded into a new 30,000 square-foot studio space in Gastown. In 2017, the company expanded once again opening a second location to meet the growing demand and we continue to seek out and employ the top talent in the business.

JOURNEY TO ATLANTIS: THE VFX OF 'AQUAMAN'

Featuring some of the biggest shots in recent visual effects history, the box office smash-hit Aquaman delivers in epic proportions. The unique challenges of the film including building Atlantis, CG hair, creating enormous creatures, and staging intricate battle sequences — all of which happen underwater — necessitated new tools and approaches, and made the work massively complex. Join us as members of the ILM team led by VFX Supervisor, Jeff White, explain the aquatic journey they took in creating 670 VFX shots for the film.
