Are you looking to kick start your career in communications by working with some of the smartest, most creative minds in the business? Hill + Knowlton Strategies is looking for an Intern to join our team in British Columbia. The successful candidate would join us in working with clients from a range of sectors including consumer + lifestyle, food + beverage, healthcare, financial services, technology, and the non-profit sector.

 Our internships are designed to give you a hands-on experience working in an agency setting.  You’ll have the chance to work on client files, access senior talent, and participate in internal training programs.

In this communications role spanning both corporate communications and consumer communications, the intern will be responsible mainly for traditional and social media monitoring, media relations, creating and editing content, helping plan events, and providing support to the team locally and nationally on various client programs.

 Duties & Responsibilities:

Monitors traditional and social media using Cision, Meltwater, Factiva, Eureka and other sources and prepares reports using MRP or customized tools for clients

Drafts a wide range of written materials (press releases, articles, media and executive briefing documents, government correspondence, social media content, coverage reports)

Assists in the coordination of events (virtual press conferences, media briefings, analyst meetings, media tours, and the like)

Establishes media contacts and drafts pitches for targeted media

Researches client and competitor products and services

Interfaces with potential client contacts, vendors, and internal teams

Serves as a reliable team member and provides support to peers

Completes work product, timesheets and billing reports accurately and in accordance with deadlines

Proactively works with supervisor to establish and track career goals, training and skill-building needs

Participates in available company training programs

Exemplifies the company’s ethics, vision and values in daily work

Provides sound judgment and problem-solving skills

Proactively seeks and shares relevant information with colleagues and clients

Actively participates in team, staff and client meetings

Assists team members as needed

 Qualifications & Skills:

 Enrolled in a communications, public relations, journalism, or related program where placements are required as part of the educational curriculum

Previous PR internship or relevant leadership role at college/university or in another applicable environment

Excellent communication, organizational and writing skills

Knowledge of BC digital + media landscapes

Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a dynamic, creative and fast-paced environment

Ability to work well with others and independently as needed

Positive attitude with a proactive approach

Required proficiency with Microsoft Office, social media; PR & media monitoring software (Cision, Meltwater, Factiva, Eureka) a plus
