The role

This role sits within the “Data Platform” part of our “Tech and Data” organisation.

We are looking for a Data Engineer to join us as we are adopting a data products approach to serving the data needs of the business and scaling our data ecosystem to enable the next generation of data-driven decisions at Funding Circle.

You will join the data platform team, a group of data engineers from diverse backgrounds who leverage the latest technologies to build robust and user-friendly tools that empower our analytics, data science, and operational teams in their data-to-day work. Our goal is to enable them to drive business outcomes by making it simple to work with data.

What will you be doing?

  • Building internal tools and libraries for our analytics, data science, operational and engineering teams
  • Maintaining and monitoring our AWS data infrastructure
  • Researching and learning new tools and technologies in the data space
  • Documenting the architecture and decisions made
  • Pairing with teammates, whenever you wish, for knowledge sharing and learning
  • Working in short development cycles and with high deployment frequency to incrementally data platform initiatives
  • Collaborating with the data engineering team to identify and drive scaling and efficiency improvements for data tooling.
  • Be an advocate for the use of engineering best practices

What we’re looking for 

  • Ability to write code in at least one high-level programming language such as Python, Ruby, Java etc. We work mostly with Python
  • Awareness of cloud platforms and infrastructure. We use AWS but have good experience transitioning new joiners from GCP and Azure
  • Ability to learn new skills and technologies quickly
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Openness to embrace feedback positively
  • Confident communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Attention to detail
  • Good organisational skills

Nice to have:

  • Prior experience in an engineering role, particularly in software, data, or platform domains
  • Experience with tools and technologies such as Airflow, dbt, Kafka, Lake Formation, Kubernetes or Terraform
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure
