Innovation & Standards Lead

As the Innovation & Standards Lead you will bring extensive skills and experience of the Linear Broadcasting industry knowledge to lead and inspire operation teams to achieve ever-higher standards.     
Innovation & Standards Lead shall be integral to the overall business and will provide leadership during projects, including at the early-stages where they will advise Project Engineers and designers in an Operations consultancy role, and then be an integral contributor and leader as the projects progress in order to achieve the Operational goals and bring the projects to fruition.     
The Lead will be required to provide guidance to operators and to the business as a whole, which will include training and written documentation.     
You will be expected to research changing trends within the television broadcast industry to provide innovative suggestions or plans that will benefit the business and which will keep Al Jazeera’s Operations at the forefront of the television industry.     

As a Innovation & Standards Lead will work closely within a small group of equally skilled and experienced professionals, using their individual expertise to help the team improve the standards of the Network and to increase the skills of the operators.

Interpersonal relationships across all departments of the business is vital and good communication skills, along with an understanding of the needs and requirements of all aspects of the business, is essential.
This role requires excellent communication skills and demands a “can-do” approach as well as creativity in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.    
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:     
  • Work with stakeholders on planning and executing changes for aspects of studio production such as; new set designs, new graphic looks, new shows, or for workflows impacting/changing production, including for pre/post-production.
  • In collaboration with Editorial leadership and with fellow Innovations & Standards team members, develop and implement the agreed “vision” for studio and post-production operations. 
  • Create standard policies and procedures for Studio Operations or for pre/post production teams.
  • Implement the technical output of the newsroom/Edits/studio to meet the requirements of the News and Programmes Editorial teams.
  • Work closely with Editorial leadership, Creative departments, Editors, and Studio Operations teams to determine and technically achieve the required look and format of the channel’s output. This includes working closely with; Newsroom, Program Producers, MCR, Media Managers, Ingest, Presenters, Gallery Crew, and Editors, among others.
  • Liaise with the Technology teams to ensure all aspects of the production chain, including any studio automation, is working correctly, and frequently monitor the chain to ensure it is functioning properly.
  • Ensure highest technical standards are achieved for the channels output.
  • Work closely with News, Programmes and Creative teams to determine requirements are met and the Network is technically achieving the visual style of each channel’s output. 
  • Facilitate problem-solving amongst team members and others, with strong collaborations and effective communication. Ensure that information flows bi‐directionally between Senior Management and production teams as well as within the Innovations & Standards team. 
  • Design and implement workflows.
  • Consult and support in maintaining the business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Must have a strong command of news programming with extensive industry experience in a live news environment. Operational knowledge of all control room positions and/or pre/post production positions is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in live news programmes or in pre/post-production is required.
