Position Summary:
The Commercial Director will play a critical role in our rapidly growing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) team and our expansion in Australia and the wider Asia Pacific region. The Commercial Director will own and lead the competitive bid processes, the negotiation of contracts with contractors & suppliers, conduct cost analysis, and making strategic product decisions for projects ranging in scope and complexity for projects in Australia and the wider Asia Pacific region. They will lead and support the based Commercial and Contract Management team to meet organization specific goals within the region.
Responsibilities:
- Own and lead the competitive bid processes for projects in Australia and the wider Asia Pacific region, analyzing commercial and legal aspects of Customer RFPs to develop a competitive submission to continue to grow the execution pipeline.
- Lead the Customer and sub-contractor contract negotiation phase for equipment, services, and EPC contracts by collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks.
- Develop key requirements for RFPs to sub-contractors and evaluate the bid results.
- Responsible for bid analysis and modeling to support the strategic procurement process.
- Work with supply chain to capture competitive intelligence and generate insights on supply chain and BESS landscape.
- Interacts with external parties including Customers, vendors, and potential suppliers.
- Actively identify opportunities to continuously improve business processes and support the implementation of such.
- Coaches members of the Commercial and Contract Management team to grow and learn within their roles.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in either Business, Engineering, Management, Finance, or Economics or related field degree.
- Commercial contract negotiation and RFPs management experience for equipment supply in the energy sector.
- Proficient at aggregating and understanding and responding to requirements and information as part of the RFP process.
- Proven experience in partnering with internal and external stakeholders to optimize a response and the decision-making process.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Fluent in English in speaking and enthusiasm for working with Customers and suppliers.
- Strong “intrapreneurial" mindset for process analysis, problem solving and strategy development skills.
- Ability to take critical decisions in the face of limited or conflicting data and under time pressure.
- Willingness and ability to travel and work intensively during negotiation periods.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence with executive level presentations
- Demonstrated teamwork skills and proven leadership skills in virtual project teams.
- Ability to manage multiple complex activities simultaneously.
