Heavy Duty Mechanic - Lead Hand

The Edmonton Shop located at 17508 116 Avenue is seeking candidates for the position of full-time Heavy Duty Mechanic Lead Hand

Schedule: Monday to Friday 6:00 am to 2:30 pm

Reporting to the Service Manager, the Heavy Duty Mechanic Lead Hand will be managing the fleet and driver issues, monitoring/controlling the maintenance costs, and supervising the mechanic workforce. They will also be responsible for servicing and maintaining company equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Counsel associates about work-related issues and assists apprentices and technicians to correct job-skill deficiencies.

  • Provide developmental direction to apprentices

  • Examine objects, systems, or facilities, and analyze information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs.

  • Use industry standard "Best Practices" to conduct repairs

  • Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, the quantity of equipment and skill of personnel

  • Understanding the priorities of the maintenance department, its customers and stakeholders

  • Monitor tool and part inventories and the condition and maintenance of shops to ensure adequate working conditions

  • Compile operational and personnel records, such as time and production records, inventory data, repair and maintenance statistics, and test results

  • Generating complete and accurate repair orders

  • Compile operational and personnel records, such as time and production records, inventory data, repair and maintenance statistics, and test results

  • Ensures all parts are recorded on Repair Orders

  • Welding/fabrication as required

  • Assists in assembling warranty situations, and ensures appropriate documentation and notification is complete

  • Continually strives to improve work processes, methods, environment, customer service, personal and team performance

  • Other duties as required


  • Licensed Heavy Duty Mechanic (Journeyman Status; red seal/certification required); Off & On Road, CVIP

  • 2+ years experience in a leadership role required

  • 3+ years fleet maintenance management experience preferred

  • 4+ years experience with diesel maintenance and preventative maintenance required

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work in a high volume, fast-paced environment

  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible with the companies ever-changing needs

  • Must pass a criminal record check; must be bondable

  • Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office and web based applications preferred

  • Strong customer service, leadership, and organizational skills required
