SENIOR OPERATIONS MANAGER

TANKER DIVISION

We are currently looking for a Senior Operation Manager to join our Tanker Division. Someone who is equally passionate about serving the community and achieving operational success alongside our dedicated and loyal employees.

Located 17508 116 Avenue NW, Edmonton and reporting to the Director of Operations, The Senior Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring customer expectations are met or exceeded by the operations team (Customer Service, Operations Managers, Planning, and Dispatch), in a cost-effective, safe, and professional manner in line with our company's core values.

 

Key accountabilities

Employee Management and Development

  • Develop a winning team and provide communications to all employees through staff and driver meetings
  • Conducting regular formal employee reviews and informal feedback discussions for all staff within their area of responsibility
  • Developing and implementing goal, target and performance standards
  • Work with Operations Managers and Supervisors by coaching to develop their skills for possible advancement and succession planning
  • Facilitate Human Resources management within his/her group to include, but not limited to employee relations, recruiting, hiring, annual reviews and training
  • Actively participate in Labour Management initiatives to ensure that the interests of the employees are being looked after
  • Ensure the operations team has the necessary tools to perform their job functions

Customer Relations and Account Management

  • Maintain and build relationships with customers within his/her business segment
  • Recommend alternatives/solutions to improve current procedures and operational efficiency and effectiveness
  • Communicate and meet with customers to review results and develop action plans to correct deficiencies
  • Monitor service levels to ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded
  • Understands, supports, communicates and assists with customer initiatives, policies and processes as they apply to Canada Cartage operations

Business Development

  • Provide input on operational requirements for new business in conjunction with Sales Department
  • Participate in regular communications and strategy sessions as they involve new customer acquisition, customer retention, continuous improvement and cost containment strategies
  • Work with the team to ensure any new accounts are transitioned effectively

Effective Operations Management

  • Responsible to ensure the front-line operations teams use the technology provided and use it in the company-sanctioned manner. This includes the A1T Transportation Management System (TMS) and the Canada Cartage On-Board Mobile tracking and KPI-generation system, and any other tools or technology that applies to operations
  • Work closely with the Operations Managers in all aspect of the day-to-day operations of the account(s) they are responsible for
  • Balance the needs for high service levels and at the correct cost levels
  • Monitor and review costs and effective allocation of both people and equipment resources
  • Monitor fleet suitability to perform the commissioned work
  • Work closely with other departments and managers to ensure that all aspects of the account are being executed as per the agreement, scope and contract
  • Participate in budgeting and review results through the use of reporting tools
  • Responsible for Profit & Loss for the operation
  • Support and enforce the Company’s Health and Safety and Compliance policies

 

 

 Core Competencies & Qualifications

  • University graduate or technical diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of related work experience, in the transportation industry
  • TANKER EXPERIENCE is mandatory
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong leadership and analytical skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills; previous experience managing a team
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks
  • Strong analytical experience in direct/variable cost management
  • MS Office proficiency necessary
  • Direct experience with staff scheduling in a variable work volume environment required
  • Experience managing a team in a 24 x 7 operation
