Canada Cartage Logistics Solutions (CCLS) is a leading provider of managed transportation 3PL programs for a diverse suite of business to business, and business to consumer supply chain solutions in Canada and the United States. CCLS is growing and has need for a Manager, Carrier Relations and Pricing  who will contribute to the success of the department, the program and the company.

Position Summary:
The Manager of  Carrier Relations and Pricing  will be responsible for the oversight and management of pricing and costs and carrier relations for specific carriers or couriers or clients as instructed by the Director, Transportation. These activities will include but not be limited to:


-maintenance and pre-planning as well as implementation of annual carrier agreements and general rate increases (GRI’s) for both carrier and client facing activities;
-performance management and retention of key performance indicators related to the carrier performance;
-carrier activity management as related to specific clients, and activities such as projects or events; and,
-rates negotiation and analytical activities related to the cost and margin impact related to rates and costs;
-sourcing and qualifying and implementing new carriers.

-working in collaboration with various depts. as required such as Finance, Analytical & Pricing group, Customer Care Group, Client Retentions, Engineering Solutions and Sales team

 

Responsibilities:

Reporting:

  • Carrier KPI reporting/dashboards/on-time performance reports
  • Customer KPI reporting/dashboards/on-time performance reports
  • Internal volume & tracking reports by carrier, lane, client
  • Daily pickup reports by client & CCLS branch
  • Financial performance reporting by client/branch
  • User activity reporting in various platforms
  • Fuel report & implementation
  • Carrier payables KPIs & vendor spend analysis
  • Creation and monthly update of fully-burdened client dashboards/P&L’s

 Analysis

  • Customer invoice analysis and approval
  • Carrier EDI file accessorial analysis and approval
  • Carrier payables dispute report & reconciliation
  • Monthly invoice audit and approval
  • Ad hoc analyses as required
  • Vendor invoice analysis and approval

 Margin Optimization/Protection

  • Monthly margin analysis by client- investigate and diagnose issues, recommend solutions
  • Help drive critical operational decision making through data analysis and providing suggestions for process design improvements
  • Ongoing transportation program reviews
  • Monthly margin analysis of orders entered
  • Look for synergies/partnership opportunities with other CCS companies

 Customer/Carrier Tariff Administration

  • SME on client & carrier tariffs: account #’s, expiry/renewal dates, concessions, etc.
  • Create and maintain client and carrier tariff databases and change/activity logs
  • Creation of customer tariffs, distribution of tariffs to sales, implementation of tariffs in TMS
Sales Support
  • Support in data consolidation and preparation for QBR’s, ABR’s etc.
  • Ad hoc sales reporting/analysis as requested
  • Post-mortem analysis of new business program implementations

 Systems Support

  • Exchange rate updates
  • Implementation of rates in supported TMS
  • Diagnose TMS issues- lane rate challenges, accessorial charge issues, etc.
  • Interface with IT/Systems teams to and provide suggestions and insight to optimize/improve/update systems as required
  • Act as a liaison between customer, operations, and IT to support TMS

 Pricing support

  • Engagement and support of solution design and pricing activities
  • Support for ad hoc project and specialized work
  • Directly interact with carrier partners to procure pricing, review billing issues, modify/update existing tariffs, etc.
  • Participate in carrier rate renewal/on-boarding negotiations
  • Use various platforms to obtain market pricing
  • Prepare and update internal rate calculators for Ops staff

 Experience & Requirements:

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in a previous Transportation Pricing & Carrier relations leadership or management role
  • University degree preferred; professional accreditation such as CITT or P.Log would be an asset
  • Knowledge of North American and U.S LTL Carriers, couriers, Ecommerce, 3PL and Logistics functions
  • Costs and cost structures for LTL Carriers/Couriers
  • Well versed in Microsoft Office Suite (Advanced Excel functions, TMS experience an asset, analyzing large data and file manipulation)
  • High level of organization, multi-tasking, strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Strong reporting and analyzing abilities, merging and manipulating data for reporting purposes
  • Customer service focused with problem solving capabilities
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills with ability to interact with all levels of management
  • Experience with managing external carriers and vendors
  • Planning capabilities with focus on deadlines and targets
  • Previous succession planning experience with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Hands on approach, directly involved in day to day activity with capacity to learn and grow
  • Innovative solutions focused aptitude with desire to influence in a positive manner
  • Strong with use of technology, troubleshooting and supporting in this area
