The Marketing and Communication (M&C) Group helps to manage the Cambridge Systematics brand, tell the company’s story, build client awareness and help facilitate the proposal process and other aspects of business development. We collaborate with CS staff to help foster long-term client relationships and a positive, innovative perception in the marketplace.
The Business Development Specialist serves as a member of a matrix M&C organization that brings strategic value to the CS overall brand, business lines, sub-markets, strategic initiatives and corporate services. The Business Development Specialist serves as a strategic partner to business leadership in an assigned CS region, providing business development, client outreach and other marketing solutions. Focusing primarily on the assigned region, the Business Development Specialist collaborates with the consulting teams in the timely submission of effective proposals, including coordination, preparation, writing, and submission; provides marketing and business development input to and support on business development strategy; and develops and makes recommendations based on knowledge of local markets and clients as well as regional CS strategy. The Business Development Specialist also supports other business development needs of the firm nationwide, in response to shifting workload demands. The Business Development Specialist develops deep knowledge of one assigned business line, sub-market or strategic initiative, as a key knowledge resource to the full M&C team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Business Development Partnership/Proposals
•Coordinates proposal and presentation efforts that fall under M&C’s portfolio, when CS is a prime or sub, for high-quality, on-time, effective results •Partners with Proposal Managers in the development of a bid strategy and win themes. •Authors, coordinates and organizes general proposal sections, including tailored information Works with the Proposal Manager to manage the proposal schedule to ensure that a high quality proposal is delivered on time •Coordinates with internal staff and external teaming partners •Engages other M&C staff as needed, including graphic designers, creative document specialists, copywriters and/or proofreaders/editors, to provide overall quality for all proposal sections, including incorporation of the bid strategy, accuracy, writing, design, graphics, and consistency with CS standards. •Encouraged to attend client, pre-bid, and debriefing meetings •Collaborating with consulting staff, submits CS pre-qualifications with select clients, including tracking renewal dates, monitoring changes in client processes, researching new clients, compiling and submitting packages, and tracking prequalification status Leads •Researches and tracks leads and RFPs for the assigned region •Distributes RFPs for the assigned region
Reporting and Accountability
• Leverage technology tools, and metrics on marketing and business development efforts, to take accountability for and proactively report on marketing, communication and business development efforts; use outcomes to recommend and execute on refining and reshaping efforts as needed
Strategic Marketing Services Partnership
•Integrates as a strategic partner with assigned region to understand geographic strategy and objectives in order to proactively and responsively provide valuable, effective, measurable and timely marketing, business development, market intelligence and internal communication solutions from the M&C group •Develops general familiarity with and knowledge of the full portfolio of CS services and products; CS business development plans; and markets, clients, and competitors• Develops in-depth knowledge of one assigned business line, sub-market or market in initiative, and serves as an expert resource in this area across the M&C group in addition to supporting the appropriate Marketing Account Manager in partnering with that business area •Coordinates for the assigned region, with the appropriate M&C resources, the development of marketing and communication materials and services, including but not limited to qualifications materials(résumés, biographical summaries, and qualifications sheets), new releases and other thought leadership marketing, web-based marketing, print material, events, and internal communications •Effectively use technology tools to support marketing projects
Position Requirements
• 5+ Years of Applicable Experience (Marketing, Communication and/or Business Development)
• Bachelor's Degree Required
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to succeed in and contribute to a matrix-managed environment
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite and relational databases
• Effective oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated strength in use of English grammar, syntax and tone
• This position requires the individual to work within the Mountain Standard Time (MST) or Central Standard Time (CST) zones.
