Position Title: Donor Relations Officer

Salary Range: 90k + DOEE + Full Benefit Package

Position Description: Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and working in partnership with the CDO and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Donor Relations Officer (DRO) is responsible for the management of major donor relationships, developing annual and multi-year major gift strategy, executing on annual plans, securing new donors through active relationship building activities to meet the organization’s fundraising goals and to retain the major donor base utilizing effective moves management and donor stewardship practices. Demonstrated track record of securing major gifts is required for this role.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Manage the Caminar Leadership Impact Circle major giving program.

1.       Work with the CDO to develop the strategy, annual fund plan and budget for the major donor program.

2.       Track and report on the progress of the major gifts program monthly.

3.       Conduct an annual donor and individual giving analysis upon completion of each fiscal year.

4.       Create, implement and manage effective systems for tracking donors and potential donors.

5.       Manage and update donor files in Caminar’s LiveImpact donor database in real time.

6.       Identify, research, and engage new potential major donors.

7.       Work with CDO, CEO, and Board of Directors (BoD) to provide ongoing support for stewardship efforts of the BoD and their donor contacts.

Initiate and conduct major gift requests on behalf of the organization.

1.       Manage a donor portfolio of 100 mid-level and major donors.

2.       Initiate contact, meet with assigned donors, and coordinate in-person meetings for the CDO and CEO with existing and potential major gift donors.

3.       DRO will conduct no less than 75 donor contacts per month.

4.       Move potential donors toward solicitation and closure.

Establish and maintain Caminar’s donor stewardship program to ensure that new major donors are welcomed, acknowledged, recognized, have opportunities to increase their level of support annually, and enjoy a close relationship with the Caminar leadership, including with the CDO, CEO and members of the Board of Directors.

Manage donor engagement activities on behalf of the organization by establishing and executing project plans, timelines, tasks, and objectives. This includes working with donors, colleagues, and external vendors.

  • Participate in the development of the annual development plan.
  • Work with the CDO, Associate Director of Development and the Development and Marketing team to coordinate donor stewardship and fundraising events.
  • Secure individual donor sponsorships to support funding for major agency events.
  • Prepare written materials, including email correspondence, donor proposals, profiles and report materials, acknowledgments, and regular communications with executive leadership, the Board of Directors and donors.
  • Work collaboratively with the Development and Marketing team to support the overall goals and efforts of the department.
  • Serve as an ambassador to enhance Caminar’s culture of philanthropy through maintaining strong relationships with colleagues, donors, funders, community and BoD members, clients, and other key stakeholders.
  • Oversee coordination of volunteers.
  • Represent the organization positively in public at all times by acting as a professional representative and ambassador.
  • Drive own or agency vehicle to meetings and other venues, as required; documenting and reporting mileage according to agency procedures, so that services can be provided in a timely manner; comply with agency vehicle policy at all times.
  • Actively nurture and advance the cooperative, harmonious and teamwork oriented environment Caminar strives to promote within the workplace.   • Assist, where necessary, in the production and execution of fundraising events.
  • Perform other related duties, responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

 

Requirements, Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be passionate about Caminar's mission.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Masters preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years experience in fundraising with non-profit organizations, including major gifts prospecting.
  • Project Leadership: Experience in planning, leading, and managing development projects, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes, and tracking and reporting on progress to senior managers/Board of Directors.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Takes initiative and actively seeks to deepen current donor relationships and to forge new ones.
  • Communications: Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising. Ability to convey complex ideas through brief, simple materials. Experience and credibility when presenting materials to external audiences.

  • Relationship Building: Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with peers, across different levels of the organization and externally.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a Microsoft platform and fundraising software.

Physical, Environmental and Mental Requirements:

  • Physical: Occasionally required to push/pull objects up to 30 lbs, and to lift/carry objects up to 15 lbs. Frequently required to perform moderately difficult manipulative tasks such as typing, writing, etc. Must be able to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods.
  • Sensory: Frequently required to read documents, written reports, and plans. Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering the phone, interacting with residents and staff, etc. Must be able to speak clearly and understand/be understood using the English language.
  • Cognitive: Frequently required to concentrate on moderate detail with constant interruption. Must be able to attend to a task/function for 20-45 minutes at a time. Frequently required to understand and relate to specific ideas, several at a time. Must be able to remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others over a period of several days.
  • Environmental Conditions: Frequent exposure to varied office and mixed (residential/office) environments. Occasional exposure to toxins and poisonous substances, dust, and loud noises.
  • Equipment: Frequently required to use a computer, phone, and fax machine.

 

Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to meet and receive a criminal records clearance, as required by Title XXII, other licensing regulations, and Caminar practices.
  • Must pass post offer, pre-employment medical and drug tests as required under State Community Care Licensing regulations and/or agency policies.
  • This position will require frequent driving so maintaining a valid CA driver license, reliable personal automobile, a clean driving record, and current insurance as required by law are essential job requirements.
  • A personal cell phone with reliable service and a data plan to use for business purposes.
