What you will do:  

  • Business Requirements Gathering which includes multiple approaches/methods for gathering requirements and documenting, including Functional Analyses/Decomposition; Use Cases/UML; Business/User stories (Agile); and Business process modeling
  • Use different approaches for obtaining the Business Requirements information, including 1:1 discovery, shadowing/observations, facilitating JAD/Jam/Brainstorming sessions, prototyping, etc.
  • Business Solutions Definition which involves using various methods to document solutions/systems requirements, including Conceptual Design/Detailed Design documents; Functional Requirement (FR)/Non-Functional Requirement (NFR) documents; Agile documents such User-to-technical stories, wireframes, website journey maps; and Development/technical specs
  • Business Process Modeling which involves documenting system and business process interactions via different methods including EPC chains; Swimlane flowcharts; and Actor-based UML
  • Development of Business Cases and Cost/Benefit documents for decision-making purposes
  • Development of QA and Test (UAT) Plans
  • Development of high-level data models (ERD's) and report specifications

What you will bring:  

  • At least 2 years of experience in computer science or information technology is required
  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in college diploma in computer science, information technology, or management systems is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered.
  • One of either CBAP, IIBA or PMP is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable with the business and the diverse technologies that support business functions.
  • Proficiency with the tools and processes that support the definition, selection, design and implementation of technology including business requirements gathering, system design, cost-benefit analysis, business process modeling and analysis, systems and user testing, and data modeling.
  • Familiar with the various technologies available to support the business, including application offerings (desktop, client-server, web-based, SaaS, Mobile); Database/Reporting/Business Intelligence/Data Science; and end user devices, including PCs/laptops, tablets, mobile/wearable, kiosks, POS registers/pinpads, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Facilitation and meeting chair skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including active listening, relationship building, team participation/leading.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Dedicated to finding and implementing “best” solution
  • Excellent customer service skills

Working Conditions:  

  • Sitting at a desk, using a personal computer for long periods of time
  • Must be willing to work a variety of hours and be on-call including weekends and evenings
  • Lifting and moving boxes with computing equipment such as servers, computers, screens etc.
  • High degree of mobility is required to support IT services across Zoo facilities.

The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is an outdoor facility and all staff working at the zoo must be comfortable working in a large variety of outdoor conditions. The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo follows the advice of Environment Canada when responding to temperature and air quality issues.
