The Opportunity

Leverage your industry expertise and join our expanding team in the Innovation Consultant role! The Innovation Consultant leads initiatives that enhance underwriting through new technologies and process improvements. This role identifies designs and leads the implementation of innovative solutions to improve efficiency, accuracy, and strategic alignment within the Technical Underwriting Office.

Your WORK as an Innovation Consultant will make a difference by:

• Develop and execute an innovation strategy supporting underwriting and organizational objectives.
• Identify trends and assess emerging technologies relevant to the insurance industry and their impact on underwriting.
• Lead underwriting technology pilots, automation projects, and strategic partnerships, ensuring robust integration and delivery across underwriting and allied departments.
• Collaborate with IT, data science, and underwriting teams to introduce innovative tools and methodologies.
• Lead cross functional deployment of innovative tools and systems that enhance decision-making and risk assessment.
• Work closely with underwriters, actuaries, risk professionals, and other stakeholders to pilot new initiatives and integrate best practices across departments.
• Lead change management efforts to ensure smooth transitions in processes and technologies with minimal disruption.
• Develop or sponsor training programs for new tools and processes, ensuring adoption and uplift capability for teams at all levels.
• Define, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and success metrics for innovation projects, present results and recommendations to leadership and stakeholders.
• Build and manage strategic alliances with technology vendors, startups, and academia to support the innovation pipeline and external collaboration.
• Promote best practices in risk assessment and change management, ensuring innovation initiatives are strategically sound and sustainable.
• Partner close with Procurement to ensure vendor contracts meet organizational standards, risk guidelines and performance expectations.

Skills to get the JOB done RIGHT:

• Bachelor’s degree (Business, Finance, Risk, Information Technology, or related field with 10 years of commercial lines underwriting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated success in innovation, change management, or process improvement within insurance or financial services.
• Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and insurance operations.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and analytical skills.
• Visionary thinker with the ability to drive cultural and operational change.
• Collaborative and flexible with a proactive approach to overcoming challenges.
• Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Travel Requirements

• 25% travel required
