Position Summary

Buckman is seeking a candidate interested in an opportunity to lead process safety strategies and subject matter expertise.  The current position is to fulfill a Sr. Engineering role, however the candidate must be interested ready to lead the Global Process Safety group as a potential near term successor for the current Global Process Safety Manager.  The position is to be based in the Memphis manufacturing facility, which is at the same location as Buckman’s Worldwide headquarters.  The position will routinely collaborate with five other manufacturing locationsThe primary role is to provide engineering support for the local Memphis manufacturing, R&D and pilot plant with regard to process safety.  In addition, key emphasis will be placed on execution of management system implementation in all 20 elements of Risk Based Process Safety.  This opportunity will challenge the candidate with projects across the globe and across multiple high hazard chemical families with near term transition to a Global Leadership Management role.

The candidate will work closely with current engineering professionals, as well as managers and front-line associates to accomplish the global process safety strategy. You will be challenged to work within a team environment across different areas of the globe.  The candidate will also be expected to be self-motivated to meet deadlines and seek out the knowledge needed to complete and successfully execute the process safety strategy and tasks assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering
  • A combined 10 years of experience in a direct manufacturing and process safety management and/or engineering role. 
  • Understanding and able to apply RAGAGEPs as it relates to engineering design or process engineering on high hazard manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient understanding with implementation experience of AIChE, CCPS Risk Based Process Safety Elements.
  • Experience with identification of chemical reactivity hazards in manufacturing.
  • Subject matter expertise in OSHA’s Process Safety Management regulation
  • Proficiency in understanding hazards and critical safeguards associated with handling flammable liquids.
  • Proficient in Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment techniques
  • Trained as an incident investigator with multiple root cause analysis techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a CCPS Process Safety Professional.  If not certified, capability of passing certification exam within first year of employment
  • A strong sense of ownership, inner self-drive and technical expertise to bring projects to completion efficiently and effectively.
  • Trained in emergency response and Incident Command
  • Ability to liaise through written and verbal communications with all levels of an organization
  • Excellent listening skills and the ability to develop probing questions
  • Strong planning and organization skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Trained in Layers of Protection Analysis
  • Advanced understanding of emergency relief device sizing and design
