1.    Mission Statement

Contributes to the success of Buckman’s product offerings through development of biocidal technologies that create new and valuable outcomes for our customers. This position will primarily support Buckman’s Global Growth Strategy efforts, specifically focusing on the detection, mitigation and treatment of Legionella and other opportunistic pathogens in Buckman’s core industries.

2.    Outcomes

  • Provide technical advice and recommendation to Buckman leadership on the topic of legionella control technology
  • Deliver an effective go-to-market technology offering for the identification, mitigation and treatment of Legionella.
  • Leads and successfully completes global projects throughout the entire life cycle of product development, including idea generation, rapid prototyping, formulation, and commercial deployment.  
  • Successfully manages external research and testing partners to ensure that Buckman’s business needs are met (time, quality and cost)
  • Provides technical coaching to associates on biocide R&D areas and project facilitation to ensure that knowledge and practices are successfully shared and learned.
  • Proactively identifies and promotes innovative solutions that have a broad, organizational impact (e.g., profitability, sales, efficiency).  
  • Scouts innovative methods, tools, and technology and mentors others how they can be applied to work tasks.
  • Present to conferences and drafts papers and patents in support of Buckman technology application


3.    Responsibilities

  • Being the in-house expert on Legionellosis and Legionella control
  • Being the technical leader on antimicrobial technology and biofouling control in the applications Buckman services
  • Responsible for development of Legionella detection and biocidal products. Acts as a Thought Leader and provides consultation on Legionella biology, regulation (ASHRAE, AIHA, etc.), mitigation and treatment.
  • The design, characterization and evaluation of new products using traditional and new approaches targeting key markets.
  • Identification and utilization of biocidal technologies.
  • Support formulation efforts for next-generation biocide technologies, including formulation and characterization studies.
  • Contribute to a strong and active portfolio of intellectual property.
  • Support the adoption of new technologies by supporting field trials and crafting engaging conference presentations.
  • Work with other teams within Buckman to support their needs for new, high performance products.

Percentage complete of Key Performance Measures (KPMs) considering key measures of success. 

Project completion (considering time, quality and cost). 

Adoption and usage of new product chemistries at Buckman’s customer production facilities.

6.    Minimum requirement to apply

Must have had successful experiences:

PhD in Microbiology (or equivalent)

Recognized Thought Leader in the area of Legionella biology, detection, regulation, and treatment. Must be able to demonstrate high impact research in the area of Legionella


Preference given to individuals who have:

Practical experience in biocide development and use, particularly in Buckman’s core industries.

More than 15 Years of industrial or academic experience in microbial fouling control

Involvement in CTI, ASHRAE, and other industrial associations
