Mission Statement

The main purpose of Global Process Safety is to set strategy for the organization to ensure catastrophic chemical risks are properly managed and a process of review of standards and governance is in place to stay current with industry standards for managing highly hazardous operations. The Global Process Safety Consultant role is to assess global resources and guide OpCo/ Functional leadership on proper designs required to ensure highly hazardous chemical risks are managed to an acceptable level at manufacturing locations and non-manufacturing locations (Customer Service Equipment as an example). In addition, this role participates in professional organizations to assist with implementing industry practices for proper management of chemical hazards. The assessments include filing applications based upon risks levels.  

 

Job Description:

  • Lead strategy, development and successful implementation of global initiatives to drive process safety management (PSM) and safety culture to an acceptable risk level.
  • Collaborate with Global SHE leadership to ensure alignment of SHE and Process Safety strategies, people, processes, and systems.
  • Guide each operating location on elements of risk-based process safety that shall be implemented based on risk level of operations at manufacturing locations.
  • Evaluate process safety implications of field installations and evaluate design and safeguards to ensure process safety is integrated with digital innovation initiatives as applicable.
  • Develop process safety audit plan with 2-year cadence for evaluating implementation of 20 elements of Risk based Process Safety based on Center Chemical Process Safety. In addition, integrate Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), facility siting, and PHA revalidation plans.
  • Lead strategies, people, and systems to address systemic gaps identified from RBPS audits.
  • Establish and proactively manage key process safety performance metrics (leading/lagging indicators) to monitor and report global performance. Partner with Global SHE leadership to standardize Intelex for process safety metrics and reporting.
  • Work with OpCo and functional managers to develop people and competencies required to effectively manage local process safety risks and hazards.
  • Participate and lead incident investigations as needed on key high impact or high potential consequence incidents.
  • Establish minimum proficiency levels, relative to roles in the organization, to guide and support leadership for onboarding, develop and maintain necessary process safety competencies based on risk levels at respective manufacturing locations and non-manufacturing locations.
  • Participate in hiring and development of internal process safety coordinators. Assist in the creation of onboarding and personal development plans.
  • Lead global Process safety community to ensure best practices sharing and implementation globally.
  • Establish criteria for new product introduction to ensure process safety operational limits and the consequences of deviating from those limits are incorporated into global operating procedures and formulas.
  • Ensure process knowledge, as related to process safety, on BPSM processes, is developed and stored in a manner that facilitates retrieval and sustainability.
  • Develop and communicate a framework for filing and sharing process safety information relative to process safety hazards of chemistries and raw materials.
  • Ensure knowledge-based decisions for safe manufacturing and storage of highly hazardous materials and chemistries.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with suppliers of raw materials, as well as small industry best practice focus groups to ensure best engineering and handling practices are well understood and incorporated at Buckman.
  • Lead risk analysis efforts and make recommendations relative to acceptable risk levels regarding the introduction of new high hazard process chemistries.
  • Provide technical coordination for property insurance company site visits to apply global standards and help senior management understand risks, and prioritize risk mitigation actions
  • Assist with development and application of RAGAGEPs for new or modified designs of equipment and processes in operations and field applications.
  • Lead PHA’s on a global basis as required.
  • Provide analysis and understanding of equipment failures that result in loss of

containment or spills of highly hazardous chemicals.

  • Participate in identification and development of best practices related to engineering designs for processes handling highly hazardous substances, ensuring global application of best practice standards are applied.
  • Ensure all new or modified equipment designs, for highly hazardous substances have incorporated process hazard analysis and associated layers of protection analysis.
  • Provide system to ensure P&IDs, PFD, M&EBs and other process safety information is integrated with equipment designs and operational procedures.
  • Provide process safety inputs to CAPEX 5-year planning and ensure annual CAPEX plan incorporates engineering design improvements needed as identified by local PHAs/LOPAs and other risk assessments, as well as incorporation of best practices that will drive continuous improvement in risk reduction efforts.

  • Supporting the S/H/E effort by embracing and championing the safety vision, S/H/E initiatives, and programs
  • Proactively managing and integrating S/H/E into projects, plans, activities, and work product
  • Embracing S/H/E responsibility and 100% accountability for all activities and property within span of control
  • Performing all required S/H/E activities (such as training participation, incident

investigation, inspections, mini-audits, meeting participation, action items, etc.) and ensuring all work complies with all applicable regulations and Buckman requirements

  • Leading incident investigations using root cause analysis
  • Leading pre-startup reviews for new processes and process modifications
  • Safeguarding company assets (human and property) through risk-aversive decision making; and designing, developing, and modifying processes and products in a manner which minimizes adverse effects on S/H/E without entailing excessive costs
  • Continuously improving S/H/E by actively collaborating with the S/H/E organization, S/H/E improvements plans, and successfully completing action items promptly


 

Minimum requirements to apply

Education: Bachelor's degree (BS) from four-year college or university in Chemical Engineering or related technical field

Experience: Minimum 7-9 years’ experience in global process safety
