Position Summary

Buckman is seeking an engineer to innovate in the space of Digital Industrial applications. You will work closely with Buckman stakeholders to derive deep industry knowledge across the paper, water, leather, and performance chemical industries. You will be involved in the entire life cycle of product development, including idea generation, rapid prototyping to develop MVP candidates, product development, and commercial deployment. You will work closely with an entrepreneurial, multiple-disciplinary team of talented engineers and external partners and be a part of a growing company with digital ambitions at the core of its strategy.

Job Responsibility Summary

  • Develop and deploy digital solutions to solve industrial problems
  • Work cross functionally with internal and external stakeholders
  • Digital solutions portfolio includes sensors, actuators, controllers, wired and wireless networking, control logic, programming and mobile/device platforms
  • Validate solutions through lab and field testing, as well as, careful experimentation
  • Communicate as the “Digital Translator” to customers, sales team, marketing and other related parties
  • Use scientific methodologies to research and develop innovative solutions
  • Use gated launch process to manage projects from concept to market

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer/Software Engineering or related technical field
  • Knowledge of industrial instrumentation and sensors
  • Demonstrated experience using digital solutions to solve real world problems
  • Experience developing and deploying digital applications in the field including lab development, field evaluation, and validation
  • 2+ years of managing innovation projects
  • Basic knowledge of industrial automation, controls logic, ethernet and serial networking protocols, pumps, VFDs, and other industrial control equipment

Preferred Candidate Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD in Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer/Software Engineering or related technical field
  • 5+ years experience developing digital solutions
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: C++ and Python, MQTT standard protocols, SQL and noSQL databases
  • Experience in specialty chemicals sector (i.e. pulp and paper, water treatment, oil/gas, or utilities)
  • Experience working within a global team
  • A tinkerer with an ability to build from the ground up
  • Strong communicator with demonstrated success managing complex projects
  • High business acumen, self-motivation, and organizational skills
