Position Summary
The Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) Manager position supports Buckman North America by ensuring compliance with safety, health, environmental, and hazardous materials transportation requirements across NA Operations with primary focus on the Cadet site. Actively leads or participates in sustainability efforts and manages SHE compliance, training, inspections, recordkeeping, and reporting. This professional is a key part of the overall site leadership team.

- Lead and sustain comprehensive SHE systems across North America, ensuring ISO compliance, audit execution, procedural updates, regulatory reporting, and integration of Buckman SHE software for effective incident and compliance management.
- Drive safety performance and culture by supervising regional SHE leaders, supporting Process Safety Management (PSM) components, implementing critical safety standards, managing training programs, and trending key safety indicators to foster proactive risk prevention.
- Ensure environmental, health, and emergency readiness including Emergency Response Team participation and leadership (e.g. training, etc.), supporting sustainability initiatives, health monitoring programs, and robust emergency response plans including fire, HAZMAT, confined space, and medical preparedness across all NA sites.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations and external stakeholders to close safety gaps, resolve hazards, manage CAPAs, lead inspections (e.g., HCAS), support workers’ compensation processes, and maintain a strong SHE presence in leadership forums.
Outcome: Manage Contractor Approval, Authorization and Training

- Administers the NA Operations Contractor Training Program, ensuring all contractor onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training are current, effective, and compliant with Buckman standards.
- Ensures contractor compliance with OSHA (federal and state), Buckman policies, and insurance requirements by coordinating with contractor representatives and maintaining accurate approval and training records.
- Manages third-party safety systems and subscriptions, ensuring Buckman maintains compliance and favorable safety metrics with external platforms and customer expectations.

- Ensure regulatory compliance and reporting for federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations (e.g., RCRA, CAA, CWA, CERCLA, EPCRA, SARA, DHS, DEA, DOT, OSHA), including accurate and timely submission of all required reports.
- Manage environmental permits and hazardous materials transportation compliance, including permit applications, internal and external communication, recordkeeping, audits, and adherence to DOT regulations.
- Review new and modified products and processes for SHE impacts and ensure alignment with current and emerging regulatory requirements affecting operations, labs, and sales teams.
- Drive continuous improvement in SHE performance, maintain OSHA logs (300, 300A, 301), support internal compliance programs, and contribute to achieving corporate and plant Key Performance Metrics.
- Maintain all required permits, forms, data and information that enable necessary records to be retained and produced in a readily available format and document structure

- Drive and support Continual Improvement projects across NA and Compliance initiatives, lead Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) efforts, and collaborate with agencies on emergency response planning and execution of drills; ensure accurate reporting, incident investigation, and root cause analysis.
- Maintain and communicate emergency response plans, coordinate with external agencies (e.g., local fire departments, LEPCs), and ensure completion of required S/H/E training and recordkeeping, while fostering a culture of safety through leadership and positive behaviors.

- Maintain expert knowledge of national and international transportation regulations, including DOT, ICAO, IATA, and IMDG, to ensure compliance across Buckman Laboratories’ shipping operations.
- Conduct audits and monitor compliance for all shipments originating from the Memphis facility and facilitate external transportation audits by agencies such as the FAA and DOT.
- Investigate transportation-related incidents involving citations or fines and collaborate with regulatory agencies and Buckman’s legal team to resolve or mitigate penalties effectively.

- Maintain and manage compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001 systems, ensuring required recordkeeping, successful task completion, and alignment with environmental, health, and safety standards.
- Lead and support ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 audits as an active team member, drive continual improvement initiatives, and ensure full associate engagement in the environmental management system.
- Ensure effective planning, review, and maintenance of ISO certification, oversee documentation updates, and support the integration of ISO 9001 data management and auditing functions.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM or a related field
- More than 5 years of occupational health, safety & environmental experience in chemical or similar industry
- More than 5 years’ experience with SHE Direct Reports
- Knowledge of basic chemistry
- Experience in computer systems is needed to support SHE and the overall business.
