Who We Are: Established in 1970, Gulfshore Life is a luxury lifestyle publication that covers the people, places and culture of Southwest Florida (Collier, Lee and Charlotte counties). We produce 12 issues a year, in addition to several special edition publications.

What we're looking for: A solid generalist writer/editor type with at least 5 years of journalism experience (some of that time should be focused on food journalism). The ideal candidate is a curious person who is always looking for story ideas and is an excellent writer and editor. You love to think of fresh ways to present stories, have a knack for packaging and are constantly looking for the why behind what’s happening and how things work. You love food in all its forms and have a special place in your heart for fine dining, wine, chef-led experiences and entertaining. You are proactive, organized and deadline-oriented without needing to be micromanaged. You love storytelling and believe in the importance of local journalism. This is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in a local dining community, develop relationships with sources to gain insider access to great stories, constantly think about fresh ways to engage readers around food, and work with a team to produce editorial content with a strong focus on quality and distinctiveness for a trusted brand with 52 years in the market.

You will:

  • Become immersed in and be the authority on Southwest Florida’s dining scene (constantly research, talk to people in the industry, go out to try restaurants, scour social media, keep up with daily related news)
  • Pitch ideas and write, assign, edit, rewrite section and feature-length stories, with a focus on food and wine, chefs, restaurants, dining trends, entertaining and artisan food makers (You will also be asked to contribute to other sections beyond food.)
  • Oversee the production of food/entertaining-centric issues and special-edition publications, such as Celebrate and Salut, the Naples Winter Wine Festival publication
  • Develop and manage our network of freelance writers; assist with hiring and managing interns
  • Work with the editorial and art team to plan visuals for stories
  • Work with the digital team to produce original content and write/edit the biweekly Taste of the Gulf newsletter
  • Represent the brand at events and photoshoots

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (media focus preferred)
  • Experience: 5+  years of post-grad experience in publishing or editorial content creation
  • Experience reporting on and writing about restaurants, wine, artisan food makers and other culinary-driven content
  • Excellent research, reporting, writing and editing abilities
  • Strong leadership skills with exemplary attention to detail
  • Proficiency in AP Style; experience in line editing and proofreading
  • Ability to balance daily deadlines with longer-lead stories across platforms
  • Eager to work as part of a team and lend a hand to your teammates however needed
  • Proven ability to use editorial feedback to improve work
  • Love food and new food experiences—in your free time, you’re the first to go check out a new restaurant, you have the insider track with the local chefs and bartenders in your community, and you love to scour social and read other publications to discover the latest trends and developments in dining
