Here’s what you’d do:

The Mergers & Acquisitions Controller serves as the accounting leader for all acquisitions made by the company. Reporting into the Controller of Maintenance Services and VP Corporate Controller, this is a key accounting and controllership role responsible for all financial accounting and reporting, internal controls, and support of related operating and production systems for acquired companies.  

The successful candidate will possess strong accounting and financial acumen specifically with a background in M&A accounting including opening balance sheet, net working capital calculations, and financial system mappings.  They will own the accounting for all acquisitions made by the company and work closely with Corporate Accounting and FP&A teams, Shared Services, Region/Market finance and operations leadership, and previous owners and operators of the legacy businesses.  They will be responsible for integrating the financials of the acquired companies which have varying levels of size, scope and complexity, and will support the VP of M&A and M&A Finance team with ad hoc reporting and accounting integration progress updates.  This role also has direct responsibility for a team of two to three accountants who support all accounting and the month-end close process for recent acquisitions.

You’d be responsible for:

  • Organize and direct the month end close process for all recent acquisitions.
  • Lead and direct a team of 2-3 accountants and driving consistency in process, improving accuracy and timeliness in execution, and provide oversight and coaching to staff.
  • Enforce and maintain applicable internal controls over managed processes.
  • Responsible for oversight and control of acquisition accounting and working capital, in addition to billing/accounts receivable, inventory, accounts payable, prepaids, accruals, and property, plant & equipment.
  • Manage opening balance sheet and net working capital for recent acquisitions.
  • Assist with the budget and forecast process for acquisitions.
  • Provide training and coaching to acquired Branch teams and facilitate a complete and successful hand-off of all accounting duties to the local Market Controller and Regional Finance Leader at 1 year anniversary of each acquisition.

You might be a good fit if you have:

  • Four year accounting degree, CPA designation required
  • 7+ years of Controller or Accounting Manager experience in public accounting environment or industry or combination of the two, with a strong preference for M&A Accounting experience
  • Hands-on experience in ERP systems (JD Edwards, Oracle, SAP, Quickbooks)
  • Strong analytical & communication skills
  • Precise, deadline-driven, mature-minded, organized, communicative and creative team member
  • High level of proficiency in Excel to perform spreadsheet and financial analysis
