The BRG Transaction Advisory practice is seeking to add an intern due to client and market opportunities and demand. The ideal candidate should be prepared to work in a team-oriented environment on a diverse range of transaction advisory assignments.  Articulating findings and recommendations around the key tax and business issues in transactions involving purchases of acquisition targets by private equity and strategic buyers, together with sales by closely held enterprises are components for this position.  
 
The ideal candidate can have skills in the following areas:
  • US tax compliance processes and common misapplications of compliance practices
  • A working knowledge of sales, use, payroll and property taxes in the context of due diligence reviews
  • Tax legal research
  • Report, memorandum and client communication writing, demonstrating economy and precision of expression
  • Excel model building, using inputs and outputs functions
  • Technical understanding of the Internal Revenue Code
 
 Responsibilities:
  • As an intern, you will be a member of the team leading and executing tax structuring and tax diligence project work.
  • Identify opportunities for tax optimization planning, tax remediation, and overall tax strategy for private equity and strategic buyers.
  • Liaising with tax compliance teams to ensure transactions are accurately reported on US federal, state, and other tax filings.
  • Support the day-to-day activities of BRG's Corporate Finance –Transaction Advisory client service teams executing on buy and sell side diligence engagements.
  • Demonstrate consistent, balanced project delegation, supervision and leadership skills across all areas of an engagement.
  • Assist in identifying issues for purchase price adjustments and potential deal structuring insights.
  • Utilize business, tax/accounting, and analytical skills to perform tasks including, but not limited to historic tax reviews, tax structuring, tax modeling and communication of findings in natural language to clients. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment; collaborate with TA Tax and BRG experts, professionals from other firms and client contacts to achieve engagement objectives
  • Prepare reports, written analyses, presentations, and other client deliverables.
  • Participate in the development of a fast-growing, entrepreneurial consulting practice including assisting in marketing, client pitches, and product and practice development.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, ethics, quality, and integrity.
  • Be ready to expand your network with clients to become a trusted and reputable advisor.
  Qualifications:
  • Progression towards a degree in Accounting, Masters in Taxation (MST), or similar field
  • 0-2 years of experience
  • Ability to manage and analyze large volumes of tax and financial data;
  • Ability to interpret the results of qualitative and quantitative analysis and develop insights and recommendations;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated ability to interact with junior and senior team members, senior management and other stakeholders or professionals;
  • Mature presence, empathy, intellectual curiosity, and ability to learn quickly;
  • Problem solving and project management skills;
  • Ability to work well independently or in a team dynamic;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize changing work demands and learn quickly;
  • CFA, CPA (or equivalent), or technical/GAAP accounting expertise is a plus;
  • Ska Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
  • Familiarity with financial research tools (e.g., Capital IQ, Bloomberg, etc.)
  
Location: Los Angeles
Hourly Range: $25-40
