Our Summer Associate internships will be approximately 8 weeks in length and will begin Summer 2025. Summer Associate positions are for candidates with an expected graduation date between December 2025 and July 2026.

Summer Associate positions are available in BRG’s Economics, Disputes & Investigations (EDI) Community, Health Analytics Practice (HAP), and Healthcare Performance Improvement Analytics (HPI Analytics). These communities are comprised of a diverse collection of experts who bring extensive academic and industry experience to deliver data driven and innovative approaches to complex business, legal, and regulatory challenges. These communities interact to deliver unique and insightful perspectives to our clients across various industries. Candidates can select a preferred area as part of the application process.   • Economics, Disputes & Investigations (EDI) – Our core strength is the ability to leverage a variety of different backgrounds – including economists, statisticians, accountants, and financial professionals – to analyze complex business, legal, and regulatory issues. We look for our Summer Associates to use and further develop their economic research abilities as well as their analytical and statistical skills on cases spanning a wide range of subjects, including antitrust, accounting, competition policy, class actions, intellectual property, labor and employment, among others.  
  • Healthcare Analytics Practice (HAP) – Our core strength is the ability to harness and analyze large amounts of electronic healthcare data and turn it into meaningful and insightful information. Healthcare companies trust our independent thinking and ability to solve unstructured problems. We serve a range of healthcare clients including health insurers, providers, life sciences companies, and the legal and financial firms that work within the industry. Summer Associates can implement research skills and complex data analytics techniques on cases for a variety of healthcare clients. 
  • Healthcare Performance Improvement Analytics (HPI Analytics)- Our core strength is providing measurable and sustainable results to our clients, including standalone community hospitals, multihospital health systems, and major academic medical centers. Our data focused approach to performance improvement helps hospitals transform their organizations and significantly improve their margins, with strategies that emphasize rapid results and considerable return on investment.  Our team specializes in performing advanced analytics on client datasets. We design and deliver innovative visual dashboards that provide valuable insights and support our clients' strategic initiatives. 
Responsibilities 
The work of a Summer Associate can have quantitative and qualitative aspects, depending on the needs of specific projects and the Summer Associate’s skills and interests. Projects range from subject matter research to data collection to the preparation of economic, statistical, financial, and other forms of analysis. Summer Associates should be able to work as part of a team to assemble compelling evidence from data and research that forms the basis for our expert opinions. 
 
General Responsibilities: 
  • Review data sets and qualitative materials to understand the unique requirements and issues involved in complex projects.  
  • Perform detailed research on topics relevant to a matter. 
  • Participate in a team environment and work to meet deadlines and quality expectations.  
  • Apply critical thinking skills. 
  • Interact with senior staff, experts, and clients to clearly communicate findings and economic concepts.  
  • Demonstrate creativity and efficient analytical skills to develop novel solutions tailored to unique projects.  
  • Audit both own work product and work product of others to assure quality.  
  • Possess strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. 
  • Provide valuable contributions to client deliverables and expert reports. 
  • Develop and maintain electronic databases, spreadsheets and other files as dictated by project needs.  
Quantitative Aspects: 
  • Identify and collect data from a variety of sources to serve the unique needs of a project.  
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze databases, spreadsheets and other files as dictated by project needs. 
  • Combine programming, model building, and statistical analysis skills using relational database and statistical software with economic intuition to analyze a variety of subjects. Use software such as SQL, R, Stata, SAS, Python, or Snowflake. 
Qualitative Aspects: 
  • Gather and review information from academic literature, legal documents, specialized industry resources, commercial databases, or other sources appropriate for the unique requirements of a project.  
  • Summarize and communicate results of your research. 
  • Produce well-reasoned analysis for a variety of cases and/or projects across industries. 
Qualifications 
  • Progression towards a master’s or bachelor’s degree in economics, mathematics, data science, statistics, accounting, finance, healthcare administration or related fields. 
  • 3.5 GPA or higher.   
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.  
  • 0–2 year of experience, including internships. 
  • This position requires a highly motivated problem solver with strong analytical ability and a desire to advance within an organization.  
  • Capability with MS Excel. 
  • Experience with relational database program(s) (e.g., MS SQL Server, SAS, MS Access, Tableau, Alteryx, MS Access, MySQL, Oracle, Snowflake or Teradata) is desirable but not required. The willingness to expand those capabilities is desirable. 
  • Experience with statistical analysis programs (e.g., R, Stata, SAS, Python, SPSS) is desirable but not required. The willingness to expand exposure to these tools is desirable. 
  • Desire to work within a team environment.    
  
Location 
With the exception of the HPI Analytics role, which is fully remote, this position is based in one of BRG’s offices and requires working with colleagues in the office three to four days a week, on average. The office location varies for each of the communities listed above: 
  • Economics, Disputes & Investigations (EDI) Washington, D.C., with limited openings in Los Angeles, New York, College Station TX and the San Francisco Bay area  
  • Healthcare Analytics Practice (HAP) – Washington, D.C., with limited openings in New York, Boston, Chicago and Tampa 
  • Healthcare Performance Improvement Analytics (HPI Analytics) –Remote or Washington, DC 
Salary Range: $25-$35/hr
