Security Specialist

This position is located in Carmel, Indiana.

The Security Specialist position is responsible for supporting and maintaining an enterprise wide information security and risk management program to ensure that information assets are adequately protected. The Security Specialist will test, implement, and maintain necessary controls to meet compliance and regulatory requirements and aligns with and supports the risk posture of the enterprise.

The Security Specialist serves as the technical leader of all assurance activities related to the availability, integrity and confidentiality of customer, business partner, employee and business information in compliance with the organization's information security policies. Must be knowledgeable about the technical controls and ensure that information systems are maintained in a fully functional, secure mode.

The ideal candidate is a continuous learner, a team leader, and an integrator of people, processes, and technology. While the Security Specialist is the technical leader of the security program, he or she must also be able to coordinate disparate drivers, constraints and personalities, while maintaining objectivity and a strong understanding that security is just one of the business's activities.


  • Liaise with the enterprise architecture team to ensure alignment between the security and enterprise architectures, thus coordinating the strategic planning implicit in these architectures.
  • Respond to security incidents and events to protect corporate IT assets, including intellectual property, regulated data and the company's reputation.
  • Monitor the external threat environment for emerging threats and advise relevant stakeholders on the appropriate courses of action.
  • Configure and manage vulnerability management tools
  • Perform scans, research and analyze vulnerabilities, corrective action recommendations and report results
  • Address vulnerabilities including patching, deployment of specialized controls, code or infrastructure changes
  • Provide technical expertise and administer security tools that control and monitor information security
  • Recognize problems and violations by identifying abnormalities, reporting problems and track to resolution
  • Assist with incident response including impact minimization.
  • Act as a consultant / subject matter expert to projects and other business units when it comes to risk analysis and determination
  • Participate in providing support in production systems as necessary

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in computer science or another related field and 7 years’ experience, with a minimum of 4 yrs. in a technical security role, is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience equal to 12 years will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a combination of risk management, information security and IT jobs required. At least 4 years must be in a technical role.
  • Written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to communicate security and risk-related concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Must be a critical thinker, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Exhibit excellent analytical skills, the ability to manage multiple projects under strict timelines, as well as the ability to work well in a demanding, dynamic environment and meet overall objectives.
  • High level of personal integrity, as well as the ability to professionally handle confidential matters, and show an appropriate level of judgment and maturity.
  • High degree of initiative, dependability and ability to work with little supervision.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Familiarity with Cisco security tools like Umbrella, Cisco Email Security, Firepower Management Console, Adaptive Security Appliance, Identity Services Engine.
  • Experience with Data Loss Prevention and classification tools.
  • Familiarity with PowerShell and Python.
  • Knowledge of common information security management frameworks, such as ISO/IEC 27001, ITIL, COBIT and ones from NIST.
