Job Description:

The primary responsibility of a Specialty Buyer is to support manufacturing operations by negotiating and procuring materials used in the manufacturing and assembly operations. This role is in a dynamic ever-changing environment with new challenges that will test the individual’s ability to problem solve and organize a large number of tasks. The individual will be communicating regularly with outside suppliers to provide schedules, forward demand outlooks as well as monitoring and communicating upcoming purchase orders or purchase orders in past due conditions, expediting where necessary.

This role will require the individual to interpret information within Epicor (ERP) and other systems to balance piece cost, obsolescence risk and inventory levels to ensure parts are available, while not overstocking or driving future excess and obsolete (E&O) inventory. It will be the Specialty Buyer’s responsibility to manage part order parameters for components in their name. This would include calculating and setting necessary minimum on hand quantities, and order quantities to ensure that all of the aforementioned risks and rewards are balanced.

Additionally, parts assigned to the Specialty Buyer will at times have an ECR/ECN associated to them. It will be the responsibility of the Buyer to utilize the current ECR/ECN software to approve or reject the changes, adjust part parameters based on the changes and move the approval or rejection of the ECR/ECN forward in a timely manner.

Strong organizational skills are required to ensure critical daily, weekly, and monthly tasks are completed on time. Strong knowledge of MS Office and MS Excel are needed to export and manipulate data from Epicor into a meaningful format for suppliers or other levels of management.

The individual in this role should have strong communication skills, as a large portion of their job is communicating to outside suppliers. Ensuring that manufacturing and assembly operations have the necessary components is a critical role that can at times be high pressure. This individual must be able to communicate professionally in high stress situations and should be creative when dealing with roadblocks to securing components.
