Manufacturing Engineer

This position is located in our Winamac, IN facility

This position develops and improves manufacturing processes by studying design requirements and manufacturing methods.  They must work concurrently with design engineering, production, and supply chain to ensure process capability and production readiness. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

  • Own manufacturing or assembly process from prototype through end of life
  • Communicates with engineers to address and resolve questions/issues
  • Ensure Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) routing detail is correct for accurate cost and quality detail
  • Return On Investment (ROI) calculations on capital equipment and make/buy analysis
  • Document and train team members on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Safety and ergonomic improvements to process
  • Establishes part presentation and delivery method from warehouse to Point Of Use (POU)
  • Implementation and documentation of cost savings through process improvements
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering Technology, or like degree required
  • Experience in a manufacturing engineering role in assembly or fabrication environment preferred, or relevant intern experience
  • Must be proficient using 3D modeling and 2D CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, CATIA)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Must be detail-oriented and a self-starter.  Also must possess the ability to function well under the demands of project due dates
  • Must have a high level of mechanical design and metal fabrication experience with a strong machine shop background
  • An understanding of the product development process; Stage Gate preferred
  • Extensive experience in structured root cause and corrective action methodology required
  • Basic understanding of ISO 9001:2008, TS16949 preferred
  • Proven ability to resolve complex and unique manufacturing process problems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills needed
  • Extremely organized, accurate and possesses a strong attention to detail required
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills needed
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively solve and analyze problems
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work independently and own all manufacturing processes and work with a cross-functional team
  • Prototype fabrication and welding proficiency preferred
  • Windows (computer), Outlook (email), Inventor, AutoCad, Vault, MS Office, extensive use of Visual and Epicor (ERP)
