Lean Manufacturing Engineer

This position is located in Winamac, Indiana.


GENERAL PURPOSE:

The primary objective of the Lean Manufacturing Manager is to support the organization in meeting its strategic goals by continuously improving its performance. This will be accomplished through driving a culture of continuous improvement and training team members on the use of improvement tools. This role will know how and teach others to recognize opportunities for improvement in all of our KPI's and to analyze and implement improvements.  In this role, you will enable processes, quality and cost improvements by leading, supporting projects and engaging the organization to adopt tools and techniques for achieving operational effectiveness. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Coach Team Leaders, Supervisors and Managers through problem solving techniques and set up Continuous Improvement projects with production teams and support groups, to achieve strategic goals driven by world class manufacturing principles.

Facilitates Kaizen events using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to generate/initiatives with measurable results, including follow-up with teams to monitor results.

Partner with management team to execute the continuous improvement vision by leading the top-down improvement strategy.

Implement strategies and actions to drive continuous improvement culture change throughout the organization.

Deliver continual results via progressive process improvements that reduce gaps in performance goals, eliminate waste and achieve world class performance.

Develop daily, weekly, and monthly measurements and KPI’s to improve operation performance along with a review cadence that promotes workforce engagement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Understands tact times for assembly operations.
  • Demonstrates use of basic problem-solving tools like Fishbone Diagrams for 4M, 5W1H, 5 Why’s.
  • Understands material flow, ABC classification for material, and understands the concept of minimal touches and minimal distance traveled for productive parts.
  • Understands the concept of Non-Value Added Work, Semi-Value Added Work, Value Added Work and Unbalance. Demonstrated use these concepts in creating Chip Charts for manpower utilization.
  • Understands the Golden Zone and Strike Zone for proper material presentation to operators.
  • Ability to use Spaghetti diagrams to track operator walk paths.
  • Ability to write Kaizen’s for process improvements.
  • Understands Shainin Red X Strategies.
  • Perform Value Stream Mapping exercises and have the ability to teach it.
  • Familiar with Design FMEA’s, Process FMEA’s and Control Plans.
  • Understands the concept of Autonomous Maintenance and can implement Cleaning, Inspection, Lubrication and Re-tightening in maintaining machinery.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 10 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment leading the implementation of lean manufacturing concepts required.  A combination of education and experience equal to 15 years will also be considered.
