The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking the services of a skilled and capable individual to work as an Associate Specialist – Investments, Liabilities and Research in our Supervision (Insurance, Funds and Corporate Authorisations) Department. Reporting to the Senior Specialist, the Associate Specialist – Investments, Liabilities and Research will be responsible for developing deep analytical capability while applying that analysis in a supervisory context, supporting anticipatory supervision and proportional, informed supervisory judgement.
This is a key role for the Authority and the post-holder will be responsible for but not limited to:

• Identifying and escalating potential asset–liability mismatches, structural vulnerabilities, or emerging areas of concern
Modelling and Analytical Support
• Supporting senior specialists in reviewing and assessing investment, liability, ALM, and modelling methodologies used by insurers
• Assisting in analysing modelling outputs (including SBA related projections), identifying sensitivities, limitations, and areas where assumptions require further supervisory challenge
• Carrying out structured quantitative and qualitative analysis to support supervisory conclusions, recognising that supervisory decisions often rely on judgement under uncertainty and imperfect information
Regulatory Data and Filing Analysis
• Reviewing and analysing regulatory returns, actuarial and risk reports and supervisory submissions
• Identifying trends, inconsistencies, data gaps, and early warning indicators through longitudinal review of supervisory information
• Supporting deeper understanding of firm behaviour over time, beyond point in time compliance
Research and Market Intelligence
• Conducting research on investment markets, asset classes, liability trends, and emerging risks, translating findings into concise supervisory insights
• Contributing to cross firm and macro prudential analysis, identifying common risk drivers, structural trends, and systemic considerations relevant to insurers’ balance sheet management
• Maintaining awareness of evolving market practices and regulatory developments affecting insurer investments, liabilities, and ALM
Supervisory Engagement and Collaboration
• Providing analytical input to asset approvals, on site inspections, colleges, and thematic reviews, under the direction of senior specialists and managers
• Working closely with supervisory teams, specialist colleagues, and internal stakeholders to ensure consistent and holistic treatment of prudential risks
• Supporting the preparation of technical briefing notes, working papers, and internal analysis to inform supervisory discussions
Continuous Improvement and Capability Building
• Contributing to the development and refinement of internal supervisory tools, analytical frameworks, and templates, supporting continuous improvement in supervisory practice
• Supporting the use of data analytics, modelling tools, and technology enabled approaches to enhance supervisory insight and efficiency
• Actively participating in knowledge sharing, training, and collaborative initiatives within the specialist function
This position requires a proven technical and business background, therefore, the post-holder must have:
