The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking an experienced and highly credible Senior Leader to join the P&C Supervision (Insurance, Funds and Corporate Authorisations) Department as a Senior Specialist. Reporting to the Director, the Senior Specialist will be responsible for providing strategic leadership on complex, cross-cutting risk and supervisory topics for the P&C sector.

The post holder will play a central role in shaping supervisory judgement, ensuring consistency across teams, and supporting the Authority’s continued credibility as a leading international insurance regulator.

This is a key role for the Authority and the post-holder will be responsible for, but not limited to:
• Providing senior leadership, direction and supervisory judgement for supervision of higher risk and complex insurers and groups
• Representing the Authority in supervisory colleges, crisis management groups, and cross-border engagements, such as in international standard-setting bodies or in conferences
• Ensuring supervisory approaches for the P&C sector remain aligned with international standards, supervisory best practice, and the Authority’s risk appetite
• Leading supervisory thinking on actuarial matters, including reserving, liquidity risk and complex structural risk profiles, including non traditional and illiquid assets, working closely with actuarial and investment experts
• Overseeing peer reviews, deep-dive assessments, and thematic risk reviews of actuarial-related areas, providing forward-looking insights to the P&C Team
• Contributing to the shaping of regulatory approaches and providing expert support to wider supervision teams on the supervision of the legacy sector, artificial intelligence and emerging topics, focusing on prudential implications
• Owning and developing the Authority’s approach to use insurance market data for market reports, market trend analysis and thematic reviews
• Leading the development and coordination of specialist expertise, strengthening technical depth and supervisory consistency across the Department
• Supporting enforcement and remediation actions where actuarial weaknesses are identified

This position requires a proven technical and business background; therefore, the post-holder must have:
• A master’s degree in actuarial science, finance, economics, or a related quantitative discipline from a recognised institution
• A minimum of twelve (12) years of experience, of which at least five (5) years should be at a senior leadership level in the financial services business and/or working experience with a financial regulatory body
• Demonstrated experience working in the supervision of International Active Insurance Groups
• Demonstrated experience in cross-cutting supervisory topics, such as P&C actuarial reviews, recovery planning, asset liability management, etc.
