Supervision (Insurance) Department
The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking the services of a skilled and capable individual to work as a Senior Officer-Licensing in our Supervision (Insurance) Department. Reporting to an Assistant Director, the Senior Officer- Licensing will be responsible for proactively providing advice and senior-level technical support to the insurance market and/or operational teams, which is directed by existing legislation and/or strategic business goals.
This is a key role for the Authority and the post-holder will be responsible for, but not limited to:
• Reviewing documents/reports/recommendations from Analytical and Administrative staff as required on regulatory or operational matters, and determining the appropriate course of action
• Performing technical reviews and analysis on more complex commercial or technical areas
• Providing first-line management of the Insurance Assessment and Licensing Committee process
• Acting as a senior level subject matter expert for the Authority and working closely to provide interpretations and advice on regulatory provisions, formulate appropriate supervisory responses in particular cases and motivate the performance of team members in the achievement of desired results through the effective use of teamwork
• Contributes to the development and issuance of timely respective budgets, annual reports and monthly statistical reports to internal and external stakeholders
• Representing the Authority at various local and international meetings, conferences, seminars or personal interactions with other regulatory bodies, governmental agencies and the financial services industry
• Performing other related functions and special projects, as assigned by management in accordance with competencies normally associated with the post
This position requires a proven technical and business background. Therefore, the post-holder must have:
• A master’s degree or equivalent qualification in an insurance, financial or accounting discipline from a recognised institution or professional body
• A minimum of seven (7) years’ relevant post-graduate experience, of which three (3) years should be at a senior level working within a regulated insurance or financial services business, or as a financial services regulator
• A working knowledge of the operations of licensed Bermuda entities
• The ability to lead and provide training on policy development initiatives
• The ability to interface with the financial services industry, government and various international regulatory bodies
