Summary: The Director of Maintenance & Reliability provides enterprise leadership for maintenance strategies and execution across multiple manufacturing facilities, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations. This role owns preventive and predictive maintenance performance, shutdown/turnaround planning, maintenance labor effectiveness, and processing-related discretionary and capital spending. The Sr. Director builds maintenance capability through team development and organizational design; establishes standards and systems (e.g., CMMS governance, asset criticality, and downtime tracking); and delivers measurable improvements in uptime, utilities, overtime, and budget performance. As the primary link between Operations and Engineering, this leader ensures major capital projects and equipment commissioning are operationally focused and sustainably supported.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Capital Projects, Equipment Programs & Network Standardization
· Lead major processing and packaging reliability/capability projects from scope through start-up
· Partner with site leadership to support equipment purchase and installation across the network.
· Drive resolution of chronic equipment/process constraints.
Systems, Standards & Capability Building
· Integrate Line Technicians into the maintenance organization with clear roles, training pathways, and accountability for basic care and first-level troubleshooting.
· Create and execute a technical development plan (skills matrices, certifications, mentoring, and progression) to strengthen mechanical, electrical, controls, and reliability capability.
· Develop integration and validation plans for new technologies and equipment platforms.
· Establish coverage models to ensure responsive 24/7 maintenance support where required, balancing cost, risk, and production needs.
· Identify, qualify, and manage outside mechanical/technical resources to augment internal capability during shutdowns, peak periods, and specialized work.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) & Deliverables
· Comprehensive team development plan, including skills matrices, training curriculum, and succession/coverage planning.
· Annual readiness plan (e.g., August–March) that ensures minimal downtime through planned maintenance, spares strategy, and shutdown execution discipline.
· Sustained reduction in utilities spending through improved monitoring, maintenance practices, and corrective actions.
· Sustained reduction in overtime via improved planning, scheduling, and equipment uptime.
· Measurable reduction in equipment downtime supported by loss-tree analysis and mitigation plans.
· Achieve and sustain 100% PM compliance and improved PM effectiveness (right work, right frequency, right standards).
· Downtime tracking and mitigation plan, including automated downtime capture where feasible.
· Operating cost models for significant equipment (maintenance/parts/labor/utility assumptions) to support capital decisions.
· Enterprise asset criticality assessment to prioritize resources, spares, and reliability improvements.
Experience/Education:
Experience in food/beverage or other high-sanitation, high-uptime manufacturing environments.
· Reliability program design and deployment (asset criticality, RCAs, condition monitoring, and spares optimization).
· CMMS asset hierarchy design and governance aligned to ISO-style standards and consistent data practices.
· Automated downtime capture/analysis experience and integration with OEE or performance reporting.
· Organizational design experience (multi-site maintenance structure; corporate reliability models).
· Experience supporting PSM/RMP programs in ammonia/refrigeration or similar regulated processes.
